Shaders and DS 4.5 / Genesis
Hey all,
I've been trying to improve my skills with DS 4.5, mostly using Genesis products. My renders have gotten much better thanks to the help I have gotten here. I'm now trying to get better with shaders.
However, this can be a confusing area. DS 4.5 comes with a number of options for HSS, Uber, etc. There are also several products available in the store. Most of these products seem to have been designed for DS3, and then were 'upgraded' for DS4.
For example, you have the Uber Shade Pack, which seems like a good bet since it will mesh well with Omnifreaker's existing work within DS. http://www.daz3d.com/uber-shader-pack
I have also heard good things about the PW shaders: http://www.daz3d.com/pw-shaders-bundle
What would you recommend for an intermediate level user who is working to improve the quality of their renders? Just stick with the things that come with DS 4.5? Or will I get a good increase in quality using a commercial shader set?
Thanks.

I'm very fond of the interjection set. I don't have any of OmniFreaker's stuff or the PW shaders beyond what's available free or with DS.

Like anything, you have to play with it to get satisfactory results...
Thanks - I was curious about those as well since they seem to be more recent.
I have no problem adjusting settings and experimenting - certainly not looking for a 'click for perfection' button! Do you feel like DimenshionTheory's products would be useful for someone like me (intermediate level user, certainly no expert), or would the additional features be a waste? How do the interjection products compare to the basic stuff in DS 4.5?
The only drawback I see for his sets compared to the ones I listed are that his sets are only for characters, while the other sets include shaders for just about everything I might need (for a much larger price, of course).
Yes! Yes I do. Interjection helped me understand how to use SSS in DS. Playing with it helped me develop my own skin shaders. His stuff is based around SSS maps that are applied with whichever texture set you are using. M4, V4 and V5 in the base set as I recall...
I'd poke through the free stuff if I were you. There are scads of free shader presets out there that you can not just use but look at to see what makes them tick. Most are going to be HSS and the newer Ubershader both of which are included with studio. If you want some to start with I have a few and a simple tutorial on my site.
