Eyebrows?

Hey guys,

How do some of you handle eyebrows in DS 4.5 with Genesis? I often create characters with a variety of hair colors, but many character sets don't include more than one eyebrow color. You thus end up with hair and eyebrows that don't match.

I have been using Sickleyield's set, and it works well in some cases, but AFAIK, you have to conform the shape of the eyebrow over the skin MAT's eyebrow, or else you will still see the original eyebrow.

How about the Genesis Eyebrow available here? It sounds to me like it somehow blends out the existing eyebrow so that you can replace it with the new one. This seems like it might solve my problem...

that's one of the things that always ticked me off about texture creators always putting brows on a texture :( You can't customize it at all... The Bonnie texture set has two colour brows

It's one of the best (maybe the best) freebie texture sets out there.

    I'll have a look, thanks!

Wow....the forum search function is really awful it seems because your thread didn't come up despite repeated related searches.

Thanks for all the information. Have you used the Genesis and Sickle eyebrows? I like the Sickle eyebrows, but I wish there was an easy way to erase or cover up the eyebrows on an existing texture.

I have lots of great character textures that I want to use, I just want to use them with a variety of hair colors!

I hadn't even considered Look at My Hair or Garibaldi as a solution to this problem. I haven't tried either yet, but that might be the ultimate solution. Need a different color eyebrow than the one included with a character? Just grow a new one!

I'd rather not edit a texture if there's a suitable eyebrow-free one already available (hence this list, to make finding one easier). But when I do I load it into GIMP (I don't have Photoshop), then duplicate the layer and add a transparency mask to it. I paint out the eyebrows on the mask (with plenty of extra space for blurring later), then flip the lower layer left-right and move it down until I find a good space of forehead skin, and note exactly how many pixels I moved it. Last, a little blur on the transparency mask to blend the two layers, and export to jpg (or png if that was the original format, but that's rare). I copy the transparency mask I made, then to do the rest of the effects maps to match I just paste it into the mask for its top layer, then flip the lower layer left-right and move it down the noted number of pixels. Lather-rinse-repeat for each, and they're all ready for whatever you want to add to 'em.

    Hope that helps!

I bought Eyebrows for Genesis, but wasn't really impressed. Seems like it will work well with some skin MATs, but it certainly doesn't work well with all.

I'll try using GIMP as suggested. Seems like some work, but it could be worth it.

I'm thinking I might try this, but instead of painting on new eyebrows, I'll just use something like Sickle's eyebrows. So I just need to patch them out, which seems to be what Spyro suggested in your thread. I have never attempted something like that. No idea if I will be able to do that in Gimp. I don't need it to look perfect because most of the area I patch out will be covered by the new eyebrow.

    What do you think?

That's what these directions are for, and it's worked well for me. Sorry if they're overly-brief -- I've considered working up a short tutorial, but probably won't be able to until next week, if then.

A detailed tutorial would be fairly amazing for folks like me that have never attempted anything like that, but I'll give it a try with what you have provided if I have time over the weekend.

I think I saw the word 'painted' and immediatly fled the scene, thinking you were suggesting painting on the new eyebrows.

Whoops! Sorry, no -- all you do for that step is paint a broad black stroke (or a bunch of fat black dots, your choice) on the all-white Layer (transparency) Mask over each eyebrow.

I've just hit the eyebrow issue, and found this thread. Does anybody know what colors of eyebrows are in the Genesis Eyebrow product? There is only a single promo pic that doesn't appear to list them all, unless my browser just ate it.

I've found links for various eyebrow-free textures, and the links in this thread, but how is everybody typically creating the actual eyebrows themselves? Are there eyebrow-only textures that you paste onto your browless textures, or are you cutting and pasting the eyebrows from products being converted, or just using an eyebrow transparency over whatever color background you want, or what? I feel I'm missing the obvious.

@KickAir 8P, the link "Free Fibermesh Eyebrows for Genesis by joequick" appears to be broken.
