    Before or after taxes? Granted it's been many years since I did my own taxes but I seem to remember looking at the tax forms and there being an added set of taxes for those who live in the NYC area that the rest of NYS does not have to worry about.

    nys we pay state income tax. another reason to move to Florida, iirc, they don't pay state income tax.

    Cost of living is lower in Florida, if you don't live in Miami and are willing to not count the outlay on bug- and alligator-proofing your yard (the serious gated communities have a cage around the entire thing!).


    I definitely don't miss the Oregon income tax since I moved to Washington state. Doing my taxes quarterly is mildly a pain, but I've been doing it for a while now and am used to it, plus they now just send me next year's forms when I do this year's taxes (makes it much easier).
