Is there any plans to give carrara (steep) parallax mapping?

    Hi Grimreaper,. :)

nobody here can answer a question like that,. since the developers don't spend time in the user forums,

The best idea is to request a "Feature" in the Mantis Bug tracker, and try to explain the benefits of the feature, over the way carrara currently works.

It's the same process as posting a Bug report, but you choose "Feature" from the Subject menu.

Right now,. Carrara supports Bump, Normal, and Displacement mapping.

Parallax virtual displacement is used more in gaming, where there is a clear need to have faster processed effects, textures, lighting etc..
that's why games use much lower polygon figures and have baked textures and lighting.

In 3D modelling and rendering there's less of a demand for Short-cuts to realism, and more demand for processing the real scene lighting, or complex lighting effects, plus much higher resolution textures, including Normal, Bump and Displacement maps.

    Hope it helps :)

Ok well I figured it would be a good idea to have something like that because some people have less powerful computers and they could benefit greatly from that and it is a lot better than norm maps and bump maps. What do you think about apex clothing?

The Nividia PhysX stuff is all nice and it'll get better as the cards GPU's become more powerful, and the available RAM increases.
It would be nice to see a PhysX integration with Carrara, but the problem is that you're risking isolating some customers by choosing a physics engine which is dependant on the Graphics card.

That would mean that some customers would need to buy a specific graphics card to use that feature.
so it's only really a "feature" if you already have an Nvidia card that supports PhysX,.

    If you don't ,. then it's a cost...

As far as I know,. Max and Maya have plug-ins to support PhysX and ApeX simulations, but I don't have much interest in games or game engines, so it's not an area I've looked into very deeply. ...although the physics technology does interest me, I'm just not a big gamer.

    :)

To me using apex clothing instead of the cloth feature seems better I really can't get anywhere costume wise with the cloth physics. I like to have my renders seem natural so apex clothing is the only thing I could think of. What about something similar to apex clothing. I mean to me the 2 above should be implemented even though they are for games they could add higher quality to your renders with not much cost except for maybe apex clothing. Just because it is meant for gaming I wouldn't say throw it out, I would say tear it down use the components that you need to build something entirely new. I know maya has it but I honestly can't afford maya to use it the way I need to.

It appears apex clothing is an Nvidia graphics card only thing.
