How do you use the Low Polygon version of Michael 4 in DAZ Studio or Poser??

LocketLocket Posts: 0

I import my DAZ models into Poser. I'm working on a project that calls for a low resolution Michael 4.

I realized when you download Michael 4 Base you get several low res variations. The files I found are...

M4_LOD_1K
M4_LOD_2K
M4_LOD_4K
M4_LOD_17K

Is it possible to load these OBJs rigged into Poser for use?

I import my DAZ models into Poser. I'm working on a project that calls for a low resolution Michael 4, but I want to use the Elite Body Morphs as well.

Can you apply the Elite Body Morphs to the Low Polygon version of Michael 4 in DAZ Studio or Poser??

They are intended to be used with the LOD (Level of Detail) option in DAZ Studio. The way it works is, the further the figure is from the camera, the lower the LOD version used. These are simply OBJ mesh files, you could rerig them in DS or Poser for your own use I suppose.

Are there are no rigged versions of them though? They are only low polygon versions without rigging?

No, there are no rigged versions. DS swaps the meshes using the LOD option for rendering as I mentioned.

Is there a way to force DS to use the LOD versions. Or a file path to the LOD models directly?

My LOD meshes are stored in Runtime\Geometries\DAZPeople\blMilMan_m4b_LOD for M4, and in Runtime\Geometries\DAZPeople\blMilWom_v4b_LOD for V4.

The normal mesh for M4 and V4 is called by the appropriate .CR2 file from the Libraries\Character\DAZ People folder, so you could change the call to load the LOD version instead. I have tried this in the past, and it works to some extent, although most of the Morphs++ don't work for me.

There are usually two places in the CR2 where the OBJ is called, and you would probably need to change both, and rename the file so that you don't overwrite the original.

    Awesome!!! Thanks!

When using the LOD figures in DS... do they some how maintain the morphs applied to the figure?

Yes, that's one of the objects of the system - both morphs and materials should be unaffected.

To follow on to this, one you have selected the LOD files and loaded them, and can see them in the Parameters - Resolution tab; how to you expect an FBX that contains the lower polygon count? I have been fighting with this for several hours today.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated for DAZ 4.6. I see screens shots for earlier versions that have a tab to select the LOD, be the tab is no where to be found now :-( If I use Decimator, I am able to export the LOD; but the premade ones for M4 and V4 do not appear to work properly.

  • 1. In Poser, go to File -> Import -> Wavefront OBJ
    2. Navigate to the DAZPeople folder and find the LOD version of M4 you want to convert
    3. Once the figure is imported, go to the Setup Room tab
    4. Open your Poser character library, and find M4. Double click M4 in the library to import his rigging/weightmapping
    5. Select option to transfer morphs
    6. Exit Setup Room

    Done.
