Aiko 5 and Poser Pro 2012 - Found a Fix!
I'm having a problem with the default textures on Aiko 5 in Poser Pro 2012. The specular setting on the skin seems to be set way too high. The only way I can fix it is to either have no specular lights in the scene, or to go into the material room and on the Blinn_2 node, set SpecularRollOff to 0 - but I would then have to do this for all material zones.
The three renders I've added here are the same scene, model and lights. The only difference in the texture - Aiko 5 default, Victoria 5 default and Julie SSS.
I'm wondering if anyone else is getting the same problem, or if there is something wrong with my install. Or is this some new way that Daz has of setting up textures that won't work with my current lights? Or am I just missing something obvious?

I am glad I am not the only other person who is experiencing the same issues with the default skins in PoserPro2012. Especially A5's. No matter what light set i would choose, my results would turn out the same way as your first image.
I am eager to hear what should be done from others who have had better attempts :)
edit: forgot to upload my image.. i used A5 def skin with makeup option and it still looks odd.
... and number three. Was also experimenting with it, and getting a bit frustrated. (first one A5 second one Joanie (S5) with the same lighting). Hope some one has a solution.
Thank you both for replying - it's helpful to know it's not just my computer. I looks to me like they made a mistake converting the textures from DS to Poser. I've had some success in the material room, but I'll need to spend some time on it tomorrow. Would be nice though if Daz could supply an alternative MAT pose.
Please do keep this updated if you find a reasonable work around. It just gets a bit frustrating when your not sure how to fix it.. lol
I didn't have time to play with A5 in Poser yet; but can you try running the EZskin script? It will modify all the material zones for you at the same time according to the parameters that you select.

Apply the A5 skin first and then try running EZSkin. Hope this can help you!
Virtual World - Thanks for the suggestion, but I can't make EZSkin work with Genesis. I'm sure there is a plugin out there, but I don't have it.
For anyone else having this problem in Poser, here is a fix. I'm sorry that It's a bit long and fiddly, but I'm not sure about the legality of providing a MAT Pose that has been taken from a Daz product, so I can't distribute the fixed file.
1 - Navigate to your Genesis folder, then to Runtime\libraries\materials\DAZ Genesis\Aiko 5
2 - Now create a copy of Aiko 5 All.mc6 then rename it to something like Aiko 5 All Fix.mc6
3 - Do the same for Aiko 5 All.png and rename it in the same way, such as Aiko 5 All Fix.png
4 - Right-click on Aiko 5 All Fix and open it with Wordpad.
5 - In Wordpad press CTRL+F then enter SpecularRollOff and click Find Next.
6 - You are looking for this:
nodeInput "SpecularRollOff"
{
name "SpecularRollOff"
value 0.8 0 1
the 0.8 value needs changing to 0.3 (in some places it is already 0.3)
7 - When you have made the change, press Find Next in the find dialogue and do the same until you get to the end.
This will fix the skin texture, but I found the lacrimal settings to still be too high. To fix this:
8 - Scroll back to the beginning of the file.
9 - Now use Find to seatch for lacrimal.
10 - Once it finds it, search for Alternate_Specular
11 - You are looking for this section:
name "Alternate_Specular"
value 1 1 1
Change it to:
value 0.2 0.2 0.2
12 - Save the file.
Now in Poser, in Materials you should see the new Aiko 5 All Fix (if not, refresh the folder in the Poser Library).
Load Aiko 5 from the Characters library, then apply the Fix file.
Renders below show before and after the fix.
I just installed DSON and M5, and the first thing I did was change the default skin settings. They were absolutely impossible.
If you want it done properly, you have to do it node by node, but of course once you have the perfect set-up on one body part, you can copy/paste to the rest.
If you use EZskin2 (available at RDNA), you can use it with Genesis. I do it all the time. Just follow the instructions in the back of the guide. I use it to fix all genesis skins in PP2012. Of course, your method with a text editor also works quite well. It all depends on what you need and how you render. :)
