Scene loading messed up since daz install manager used (due to new directories??)

Hi Folks,

Ever since I installed the new Install Manager and restructured ALL my content to the new users/public/My Daz Library structure, none of my old scenes will open any more. There are always things missing. At first I thought this was just me and that old stuff was installed wrong. However I've just spent $60 on the 3d Universe 'Sandy Bay' scene just so I could load the complete scene, rather than all the bits and pieces. But when I try to do this I get the same error, Loads of stuff is not being found.
I;ve checked my content DB directories and they're correct, I've looked at the log file but tat's no help as it just lists stuff as missing in folders I can't even find!
This is very frustrating as I've invested tons of time setting up 100's of 'template' scenes that now don't work, not to mention the money spent on products that are now not working properly.

Does anyone know if there's a fix for this? I don't want to go back to re-downloading and re-installing all my content without using the install manager, it would take too long. I've tried resetting and re-importing the content database but that doesn't make any difference.

Thanks
Roger

OK, I managed to find a work-around by importing the Poser version of the scene that's included (for Sandy Bay)
Thing is, that doesn't help with loading up all my old scenes, that aren't in Poser format!

Funny how Daz found all the content for the scene when importing the poser one, but not the Daz studio one!! Even though the stuff is all in the same places...

It seems to me that your problem is a mising 'data' folder. Is the error message something like 'Caannot find file for Storable....', and when you say:

I;ve checked my content DB directories and they’re correct, I’ve looked at the log file but tat’s no help as it just lists stuff as missing in folders I can’t even find!

Are folders 'data' folders that you cannot find? When a scene is saved by DS, files are written into the data folder, and when you reload the scene, DS looks there for the files. You changed to the new 'public' are for your installs (so did I), but is your old folder (My Library?) still available? That is where the data folder for your older scenes will be, and you will need to add that to the Content Library Manager.

Are these scenes DAZ or DUF, and what version of DS are you uisng?

    Hi Jimmy,

Yes! The missing files are 'data' folder ones. So, I'll see if I have a backup of my old Daz studio folder somewhere and that should fix my old scene problem. Thanks a million!!

Of course, why would a new install, like Sandy Bay, which I did this morning, not install a new data folder?

    Thanks loads
    Roger

Edit: It did, it put it in my old library location! Phew!

It may be a long shot but with DS3 if this happened we would make a dummy scene loading all the items that is in the scene that won't open, save the new scene and then try to open the old one. Positioning the new items doesn't matter as all we are doing is sorting out the Data info.

Thanks Pete, Good idea, I just figured out why it wasn't working though, The scene in question was really old, so it was back when I had my installation on a mac. Some months ago I defected to Windows and moved my daz across. I just went to 'time machine' (the main thing I miss from the mac) and found the old data folder, merged it with my new PC installation and hey presto it worked!

    This community is great!

    Thanks

I don;t have Sandy Bay, but it may not be in the list yet.

You could report this in the Bug Tracker, there is a category especially for the DIM.
