hi i wish to create skin tatoos for a character. I have watched the daz3d tutorial - its makes sense. However, I can't use the plug as I am working with an older version of photoshop. I know hold to use photoshop - been using it for years but i don't know how to
1. locate the standard skin map files in Daz for the standard Stephanie - Candace Character
2. export to photoshop - I figure i can just cut and paste it into photoshop depending on the file type -
3. import back into daz as a new skin texture.

Again I cannot use the plugin as it only works for more current versions of photoshop

Once its in photoshop - no worries - but where are the skin files in the directory of Daz -

my other option is to create a texture file but these just tile and I would like to be able to read the writing tatoos on the character

I hope this post makes sense - can any one help

Load Steph, Apply the texture, then use the Surfaces Tab Diffuse Drop down and pick Browse. You are now in the Folder with the texture and the path will be listed in the browser. Always work on a COPY of the Texture and load it to your Figure after your done. Then Save As a Materials Preset when you are happy with your work.

The skin texture maps are usually (99% of the time) jpgs and are located, in /Runtime/Textures/DAZ/Characters/MilWom/V4/ (for the included ones) or similar (often vendor or character name being the folder after Textures).

In Studio, the loading of the texture map is controlled under the Surfaces pane/tab, Diffuse...

quick question - there are two versions of files - coloured and black and white - for each skin map - which one is best to edit?

The black and white is usually the bump map or specular map, not the 'texture' map...

Ideally, you will create a copy and edit the copy of the color map.

What versions of Photoshop and CS does the 3D bridge support? This is another example of the ReadMe files being incomplete, as what I could find in the Documentation Center mentioned PS 7, and CS 3.5, both ancient by now (neither runs under current versions of Mac OS X). Before I crash Photoshop yet again, is the 3D bridge meant to support cs5.1-6.0?

no it only works with newer version afaik.

  • Just wanted to add :

I've been looking for the skins to the models in order to alter/create different skins myself. I'm also using a mac, so that's always fun to deal with. In any case, for other mac users trying to find these locations :

    OSX/Users/Shared/My DAZ 3D Library/Runtime/textures/DAZ/Characters/character-name/character_assets

As other users have said, always make a copy and work from that. It would really suck if you altered the original and made a mistake that you can't restore to the original non-altered version.
