Shader Mixer: The link between "Edge Blend" and the "hidden" "Opacity" settings

    As I understand it, Edge Blend blends two colours according to their angle of incidence - the outer colour is for things seen edge on, the inner for things seen flat on. In this case it's being used to supply the opacity colour (remember that in 3Delight opacity is based on a colour, so that it can allow or block light according to its colour - the percentage slider we usually see is just a simplification that corresponds to shades of grey).

    You don't see Opacity in the Surface tab because the Edge Blend brick has replaced it, it's the same with every input connector, plug a brick into it and you replace what's there with what's in the brick.
    As for the hidden settings on the Edge Blend brick, you can hide any dial in DS by accessing it's properties tab, in the SM double click on the dials name to open it, in the parameters tab click on the cog next to the dial.
