Are V4 Textures compatible with V5?

I'm about to take the V5 plunge (and M5 later) and want to know if V4's textures can be used on V5? I saw a render or two here on this site where it was noted that V5 had V4 textures applied to her. If that is the case, are they applied the usual way in Poser (I'm using Poser Pro 2012) or what? I sure would love to be able to use V4 textures because I've invested a TON of $$ in them and would hate to throw all that away. Many thanks for your help!

Yes. Genesis includes compatibility with the V4 textures.

The answer is both yes and no ...

Yes, V4 textures can be used on Genesis, of which V5 is 'but' a shaping morph of.
No, inasmuch as the V5 UV maps and V4 UV maps are not compatible so you'll not, easily, be able to mix and match bits.

Genesis can use a hell of a lot of different UV's provided you have the character pack for it. Eg when you buy Freak5, you get the option to use Freak5 UV. Here is a list of what I have populated. Genesis out of the box has V4 and M4 UV support.

Thank you SO much for your speedy responses! I'm very happy to hear that I can use V4 textures on V5; I just bought the V5 and A5 starter packs and can't wait to start using them. I have another question and that is, can V4 clothing be fitted to V5 using Genesis morphs, etc., etc.?

You can fit any Victoria 4 clothing to Genesis using the AutoFit tool that's included with DS4.5. It's very easy to use...almost as simple as loading Genesis clothing. Note that results vary...most items work fairly well, but shoes and things like long dresses often don't work so well.

You can fit V4 content to Genesis and it will follow any shape. However autofit doesn't not do a good job on certain types EG long dresses and shoes. For better results, I would recommend this. http://www.daz3d.com/sickle-rigging-and-morphing-system

Scott and Zev0, thank you so much for weighing in on the V4 clothing fits to V5; that really helps a lot! Keep in mind that I'm using Poser Pro 2012 here; is the Autofit tool included with Genesis? Scott, you mentioned DS4.5 in your reply, so I'm a bit confused. Could you clarify? Thanks again!

Oh you are using Poser...Hmm well I don't use Genesis in Poser at this stage because its a bit slow for my liking. So maybe somebody with more experience can answer.

Autofit is a plugin for DS.

    As for the UV switching:

Go to the Mec4D and pick up this script for Poser

    http://www.mec4d.com/store/index.php?_a=product&product_id=86

It's only a $1 but well worth it as it can simplify the switching of UVs in Poser.

There is no autofit for Poser but it does come with Wardrobe Wizard that will allow you to convert clothing designed for one figure for use with another.

    http://www.philc.net/store_WW_Extra_Figs.php

The link is for page with the add on figure packs Phil sells. The version of WW included with Poser only comes with support for Poser included content.

If you want to convert Gen 4 to Genesis you will need the Genesis figure pack and V4 if you want to convert V4 clothing and M4 if you want to convert M4 clothing.

Wow, guys, thank you so much for all your help! Your answers have been just awesome but I have just one more and then I'll be out of your hair (pardon the pun in advance, LOL) and that is, will V4 and other Gen 4 hair also fit the Genesis/V5 figures? Thanks again so much!

Yes it will... but conversion can be a bit wonky due in large part to the high polygon count in Generation 4 hair. Your best bet is to take a native Genesis hair and use the transfer utility to convert Generation 4 hair to Genesis that way rather than using the figure.

You don't have to convert hair to use it. Simply load the hair, use the dials to move the hair into place, resize it if necessary and parent it to the figures head the same as you would any other prop hair in Poser.

Unless you have DS4.5 installed on your system, you will not have the transfer utility available to you the same as you do not have autofit.
