Converting line drawings (engineering dwgs) to dxf?

Is there readily available software that can convert an engineers drawing into a dxf for 3d manipulation?

Can Hexagon import a dxf file?

iirc, my old Bryce could open a .dxf file, but i don't remember seeing the option in Bryce 5.5.

I think my old Corel Draw had a trace option, but before i go crazy looking for it, i'm hoping there might be something more readily available?

Thanks. :)

Hexagon can import and export DXF.

The problem with CAD files tends to be, from what i've read, that they contain lots of unwelded elements. getting everything to join up to make an object takes a lot of fiddling.

you need a trace application. The single BEST tracer I know of comes with XARA. http://www.xara.com/us/products/designer/

    Thanks!

google found a utility called VectorNow. First try converting a png to a dxf some of the lines and text look sorta wobbly. The engineer is gonna try something called 'cleanup' in his CAD program on it.

Be interesting to see what Hex will do... :) I haven't seen yet what uvmapping is like in Hex.

Misty, something else you can do is trace it with software that will export AI files. hex will import those as well. They're vector files just like DXF, but I think they have more parameters, so they do curves better.

You can actually do this in Rhino. The trial version has 25 saves.
