Trouble Rendering

Hi all,

I'm hoping some of you smart people here can straighten me out. Here's the problem as succinctly as I can put it:

I'm using Daz 3.1 and I've created a scene with 4 characters. Originally it was 3 and it rendered just fine, but now it's 4 and it doesn't. It crashes every time I try to render to a file. I've read a lot of threads about this and apparently it's a pretty common problem when you start putting this many figures in one scene. Although there seems to be some confusion as to whether it's the memory or the CPU the gets overloaded and causes DAZ to shutdown. I've tried rendering it on two different machines: a laptop running Windows 7 with 4gb of Ram and a desktop running Windows XP with 2gb of system ram and an additional 2gb of ram from an EVGA GeForce graphics card. Neither can finish without crashing. Someone in another thread I read suggested rendering the scene to an RIB file and using 3delight outside of Daz to finish the job. I tried that but all I got are a ton of S2051 "Cannot load shader" errors and a tiff file that only shows a silhouette of my scene. So that's where I'm at. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update: Came across a discussion that made me think maybe I downloaded the wrong version of 3delight. I originally simply downloaded the latest version (10 IIRC) but since I'm running Daz 3.1 it sai I should use 3delight 8.5 so I downloaded and installed that one instead. Now when I try to render the RIB file using 3delight 8.5 instead of getting a whole bunch of S2051 “Cannot load shader” errors and a tiff file that only shows a silhouette I get a whole bunch of T2040 ".tdl file not found" errors and no tiff file at all.

    I'm so confused. :(

the latest version of 3Delight wont compile shaders for Daz Studio 3
so specifically which version of 3? There were a bunch of 3Delight changes over the course of Daz Studio 3.x
you should be using Daz Studio 3.2.1.32 (or is it 3.1.2.32?) anyway you mention having a Windows 7 laptop with 4 GB RAM and you can't render on that one either, the question is are you using Windows 7 32 bit? and if so have you enabled the laptop to use all 4GB for an application?
If you have not done that you can do it here

Ok, now if that fails or if you just want to try 3Delight it should be this version:
    http://www.3delight.com/en/uploads/packages/3delight-8.5.0-setup.exe

the thread for the Studio 3 3Delight walk through is available here, it should still work but I think the license checkout process was removed by 3Delight so that's one less headache you have to deal with.

    Good news and bad news.
The good news is that worked. I was able to render to a file successfully. :)
The bad news is that it completely fubar'd my other applications. Lotus Notes wouldn't launch and instead gave me "Unknown ICC" errors and Firefox would launch and then crash saying "The application has failed to start because the side by side configuration is incorrect". So I had to disable the RAM change.

Yup that's the version I ran last night that was giving me the T2040 “.tdl file not found” errors and a zero byte TIFF file.

Notice Lotes! Man, I hated techning Notes, probably something in the notes.ini and you got it wipe it out and reconfig and that is what we commonly refer to in the IT biz as a cluster ****.

Firefox should not being doing that, you may want to upgrade to version 19.0.2 and see if that's still happening. The "3GB Switch" or "/3GB" is a very common practice for windows users and should not be giving you this grief.

    Quick question, did you reboot?

    Another quick question,
when you save the .RIB file are you using the folder at the root of the save, or the one INSIDE that folder?

Yeah I hate Notes. I'm convinced that it's pure evil.

I've upgraded Firefox. Thanks, I didn't even realize I was out of date.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "root of the save, or the one INSIDE that folder" but I've been saving the RIB file to my laptop's desktop path.
