Texturing terrain

I haven't textured a terrain in Carrara in years. Looking for a refresher on ways to make the scenes look better than the default shaders / scenes in Carrara (for regular ground, covered with smattering of grass / stone ). Can't recall if quick fix was via scaling, use of noise, or using jpegs in place of procedural shaders - but think there was a quick simple qay to get things looking pretty good without taking too much time. Not sure if those threads were on these forums or old DAZ forums. Thanks for any suggestions.

For bitmap texture, you can use my Triplanar plugin. There is an example in the short tutorial there.
Thanks - downloaded and will give that a try. Also found an old cripeman tutorial that had some of the info I was looking for.
