Quality 4 renders crash Daz 4.5 on my machine (i7 12gig vista home premium 64 bit)

It seems the problem is the 3 delight software.

Do I need to install that separately, and from where?

Thanks

That actually makes me feel better. I have an older machine that render crashes a lot as I prefer to render using Quality 4. Currently, I treat every scene like it's going to crash and save it out before doing a render so I don't have to start from scratch. Changing a light setup or the render size will usually let my machine complete a render. It's a solution but not a great one.

You are using the 64 bit version? Do you get a crash report? If you use WIndows Task Manager how much RAM is DS using when it crashes? Do you have progressive rendering turned on in your Advanced render Settings - if so, turn it off as it uses an excessive amount of memory (it's really only useful for previews that you are going to stop early on, checking lighting levels say).

    OK, did a few tests...

Reset machine, loaded a basic character and rendered at quality 4 size 5000 pixels x 5000 pixels.

Then tried to render the scene achieved at the end of the tutorial fiery genesis.
Setting 100pixels x 100 pixels, CPU was on average at 35%, ram at 30% rendered ok in 4 minutes

Finally, tried to render the same scene at 250 x 250 pixels.
After 3 minutes it have reached over 95%, the cpu usage had dropped to 35% (at times it had been 100%)
    Ram 30%

At this point it crashed and asked me to submit a bug report, which is attached. (rename to .zip)

    Help please!

That sounds like the behaviour if Progressive render is on - did you check that?

I uninstalled and loaded the new version available today - Rendering now as sweet as a nut - Yeah

By the way, rendering with 3delight is now standard with quality 3 AND 4

    thanks for the help folks

boy am I glad to hear that! I just completed a render I was absolutely sure would take 8+ hours... 3DL stand alone did it in less than four... I was worried I was gonna start experiencing crashes the way everyone else was...
