Wet look make up?

Hi all,

Any ideas on how to pull off wet look makeup? I'm talking about things like this:

Getting the skin to look all glossy and shiny isn't the issue, it's getting the makeup to look wet and super glossy. Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Are there any LIE makeup sets that address this specifically?

Many thanks!

I'm not sure about the eyes, but these seem to get you the lips you're looking for...

  • Thanks. I have that set, and it's great. Getting the lips "wet" is easy, and they look that way "out of the program;" it's the eyeshadow, blush, etc, that's the problem.

  • I've achieved the affect with the metal flakes weight, putting a map in there so it just falls on the eyes and playing with the settings to give it a wet look. You could maybe do the same with top coat weight?

I'm new, but I would imagine thats how it's achieved.

  • Thank you for the idea. That does work somewhat, although the "somewhat" is likely more from my lack of skill than anything else! You'r suggesting along with altering the diffuse weight and translucency colors in combination with metallicity also gets me close to the desired effect in terms of the skin. Where I'm still having issues is in making the wet look differential. In other words, I can get the skin to look wet and/or super glossy, but when the LIE makeup presets are applied, they go on normally, resulting in a figure with "wet" skin but "dry" makeup.

FWIW, I would guess this isn't easy or perhaps possible in Studio. If it was, I would have expected it to show up in one of Forbidden Whispers' "Extreme Closeup" makeup sets.

Couldn't you take a custom specular map and apply it to Glossy Roughness and Glossy Reflection? Maybe even try it on a Geometry Shell with Alpha Cutouts? Just an idea. :)

  • Karuki is correct... I used this method on a character that I'm working on (will hopefully be in my store at Rendo soon)... Just create a black and white mask (with the white part being shiny and the black not shiny)... it also helps if the white part is the same shape as the makeup, so it's not shiny in odd parts that aren't makeup. Then you simply add it to the metal flakes weight and roughness and tweak the settings... you can also include a colored image in the "metallic flakes color" which can add details like glitter (see 3rd link for glitter example)
