Installing purchases

Hi guys, When you just made a purchase and it comes up in the " Install Manager " for ticking and downloading... it sometimes has a Daz version as well as a Poser version. It may be a stupid question but are these identical as far as content is concerened? Mainly because the megabytes are sometimes slightly different in both. And do I really need to download the Poser version if I only use Daz Iray? I feel like I am doubling up on my hard drive for nothing. And another silly question..is Poser only used for characters only?

Thanks, Grace.

I only use Daz Iray so I usually don't download the Poser version. Save some hard drive space. :)

You'll need the Poser version for some older content, especially if the file size is significantly larger for the Poser download.  These haven't been optimized for DS yet, and therefore the geometry (and often the textures) is still with the poser version, and the DS version just has presets for DS materials.  The number of products like this is steadily declining, though.

On the other hand, if the file sizes are roughly comparable, then you should be safe to go with just the DS version.  Even if the size is different, that's mostly due to different texture map needs between Poser and Daz Studio.

Note that if you go into the Install Manager settings (click on the cogwheel in the top corner) you can define which content types you want to download. If you deselect "Poser", then you'll only get Poser installers when it's one of the old "Poser objects, D|S materials" setups, in which case you'll need both, or if there are no native D|S files at all.
