Studio Freezes Up--Is it Related to the newest Windows 10 Update

I've been having a problem since yesterday with Studio.  After woring on a scene for about ten minutes or so, and I try to select an item in the scene tab, I get the "waiting ring" and I may or may not lose the scene view temporarily.  It starts out as a short wait, but by about the third time, Studio grinds to a halt, and I have to force it closed.  The only change I can think of is this Windows 10 Creators Update, that also installed yesterday.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes, I've had similar problems when trying to render with Iraydium my computer stops working and sometimes closes down, I've never had this problem before, occasionally DazStudio freezes or when I try to turn my subject around studio puts me back to the beginning then I have to re-select the subject each time. I have always had the latest update for DS, but it might be the windows 10 update!

What security software are you using? Also, do you have Alessandro's new Catalyser for LaMH? I noticed some suer were reporting lagginess with that isntalled, though I'm not sure it was as you describe.

Iray crashes sound like a possible heat issue - are your fans all working correctly?

I had a bsod after installing the latest update. Dump file pointed to Nvidia driver. All was okay after I updated the driver. I was using an old driver , 3 months old, because it was speeding up my renders.
  • Hmmm...I do have Catalyser for LaMH, and I recently installed it.  You think that could be the culprit?  I have been working on another copy of DS that doesn't have it installed today, and I haven't had any issues.  As far as the other things, I use Norton for security, but never had a problem.  I checked my fan monitors, and ther're all working, with no excessive heat build-up.  I've also just updated my Nvidia drivers.

  • Try disabling Catalyser in help>About Isntalled Plug-ins, restart DS, and see if the freezing goes away.

It also happens on W7 x64, and also with Catalyzer installed/enabled, so I'm going to check if disabling it works as well.

Update: Yup, after disabling the LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer plugin and restarting DS, freezing during scene assets selection goes away.

2nd update: It seems that putting at least these 4 files (image attached) in System32 folder (and enabling the plugin) also fixes the issue, just remember to backup any previous version of these files there, if any exist. These four files are used by this plugin. ^_^

3rd update: Scratch that - waiting for plugin fix ;)

This is exactly the issue I was seeing with the Catalyzer installed.

I hate to say it, but yes, disabling Catalyzer fixed the lag. Thank you Richard.

Alessandro (AM) has been working on it (along with a crashing bug) and has a bug-patch in for QA so it should be fixed soon.

Sounds Great! I love the plug-in and it bummed me out that it was the cause of the slow down.

  • Just confirming this problem, scenes freeze for 1-2 minutes when selecting something/anything
    with the Catalyzer plugin enabled.

Pardon the newbish question but does the Catalyzer plugin update automatically,
if not, how do people know when it's been updated so it can be enabled again?

A released update will appear in DIM, in the meantime Alessandro is posting to the official thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/188806/released-lamh2iray-catalyzer-1-2-update-available-commercial#latest
