ZBrush UV - Need Help [Fixed]

I've made a pair of pants in ZBrush, but I can't seem to get it to produce a decent looking UV. This is what the program thinks the UV should be:

While the left side looks great, the right leg is all jacked up. I have no idea why or how to fix it. I've tried "ZRemesher" and tried the "protect" option in the UV Master. I've tried the "Attract" and painted the blue attract lines in the back, crotch, and inside of the legs. STILL it wants to jack up the legs. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong or how to fix this. Any help you guys can give would be most appreciated! :)

I've never used ZBrush, but I think you need to define some seams - maybe try this tut?

Except this depends on something like Modo to cut the mesh up into groups and is essentially unwrapping there.

Diva, I would look into Blender for doing your UVs if you cannot afford another 3D program.

You should have seams defined if you don't already.  You can draw them on or do it by establishing poly groups.   I would create poly groups that match the chunks of fabric that would be sewn together in a real pair of pants.

If you've already done that, or if you do that and it doesn't help...

Under deformations, apply a noise of 1.  Then run the unwrap again.  Copy and paste those UVs (in uv master) back to your original model if the noise effect was noticable. That's what i do.

Thanks, guys! I'll try your suggestions. I'm pretty frustrated and desperate at this point. This is the third article of clothing I've made that ZBrush seems confused about - at this point I can't even texture them due to the weird stretching and seam placement.

Thank you for taking the time to give some suggestions. Here's hoping one of them works for me! lol :)

Are you making seam lines in Zbrush as right now it looks like one leg is being done and the other isn't?

If you mean using "attract" under UV Master and drawing seam lines with the blue then unwrapping it, then yes. If there is another way to tell it where to put the seams I don't know of it (I'm very new to ZBrush and don't know much - I'm stumbling around like a drunk in the dark lol).

I've tried using the "attract" under "UV Master", I've tried using the "protect", I've tried a combination of the two. I've drawn the line on the inside of the pants AND the outside of the pants. Nothing seems to work.

We all are wating for more zbrush tutorials here in dazhop that explain the process about clothes en character design more,

Why are we more interested in tutorials and not the next g8 gadget ?

  • The UVs seem to indicate some degree of asymmetry in the mesh, but why I'm not certain.

you could use the mirror and weld option under geometry choosing the correct axis

    then run Zremesher after

of course then your pants will be symmetrical in folds which you may not want.

Have you tried using the "Protect" brush in the UV Master to color the rest Red to see if that holds it all together?  You may also want to redo your Attract seems.  I often will opt for seems that run from the outer hip to the bottom of the pant and then from the inner crotch, down the leg to the bottom

    Save

Yeah, there shouldn't be. I used "mesh extraction" of G8F so both sides have the same poly points.

Yeah, that works but then, as you said, it turns symmetrical and just mirrors all the folds, which loses all the realism.

    Yep.

And yeah, I've tried redrawing the lines several times. Changing the placement of the attract lines. Redrawing the protect areas. It will change the configuration of the UV but still makes one leg all weird with stretched texture and seams in the wrong place. It's very strange. I tried bringing it into Blender but I'm such a Blender noob that I couldn't figure out how to do a UV there. That program seems to be (to me at least) so un-UserFriendly. Not looking forward to having to learn yet ANOTHER 3D program just to do the UVs.

Hmm. I've done that and didn't have a problem like this. Need to think on this a bit.

I thought I'd update everyone and let you all know I found the solution!

I was watching this tutorial and decided to try that - and split the back and front of the pants into separate poly groups:

And then unwrapped it. And it fixed the issue:

    Yay!!

    PANTS!

Thank you, everyone, for your advice! I appreciate the tips and help. :) I learned a lot and I appreciate you all taking the time to try and help me! This community is awesome! heartyes

I'm not waiting for them, since I know that it's going to be a long wait. Many times, they're either posted to YouTube for free or put on other sites for sale.

Ahhhh You're right! You DID suggest that. I was stumped on everything you said. lol The "add noise" and "copy and paste the UVs" part - I don't know how to do any of that. lol And sadly I didn't know what "use poly groups" even meant until I found that tutorial. I'm such a newbie to all this.

You're correct though, your suggestion was totally right! smiley I just didn't know what any of it meant because I'm a total newbie. lol Thank you for the help. If I had been quicker to understand I would have worked it out much sooner. That's completely on me for just being ignorant about all this. I'm learning though! :)

Thank you again for your help, JoeQuick! heart

Thank you! They have a few issues but they're my first pair, so I can't be too hard on myself. lol I'll get better at it the more I do it. :)

Thank you for the lovely compliment! *hugs*
