IBL Specularity and Inside
Hi Everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, I have owned bryce for many years beginning with version 5, and have tried on and off
to learn the program with little success, now I own bryce 7 pro and this time am determined to do some great artwork with it.
Thanks to everyone on this forum, especially David Brinnen and Horo for their expertise and knowlwdge of bryce.
I have been reading all the posts, and have picked up many tips and knowledge just by reading. I have purchased the mentoring DVD
and have a question for Horo.
In the IBL Specularity and Inside Lesson on the dvd, Horo you mentioned something about a small transparent sphere, that you wrapped
the HDRI around, to produce a texture on the walls. How do I go about to achieve this, I can't figure this out.
Thanks.

Welcome to Bryce and this forums - and thank you for your patience to watch any video of mine without falling asleep.
The HDRI from inside is actually a super tiny sphere that generates the light contained in the HDRI, which is located at the world centre. This "sphere" of light is invisible. The light emanates from it, but the light can't bee seen either. You need a surface this light can shine on. As an example, you can create a sphere at world centre and pit the camera into this sphere. Then, you see how the HDRI lights up the inner side of the sphere.
To produce a pattern on the wall, you create a small sphere in the world centre and give it a material that is partly transparent.
Picture 1 is an example of a pattern cast on the inside of a sphere. It is rendered as panorama.
Picture 2 shows the setup. A large sphere with the camera inside it, and a small sphere in the centre (around the invisible HDRI).
Picture 3 shows the material on the small sphere. The important part is to set it to Blend Transparency and set the dot into Transparency. Use Object mapping.
Picture 4 shows the IBL tab with the HDRI used.
Hope it helps, else do not hesitate to ask.
Hello, and welcome to the forum. Thanks for buying the DVD! Oh and, in case you've not found them yet, we have been busy making a few more tutorials Horo and I. Here's a quick run down for reference.

So there you go... and if you've watched all these, don't worry, we have not run out of things to experiment with yet. I also plan to expand on the Bryce export video's, partly because it's something that I've not really examined before, but mostly because I'm intrigued by the idea of exporting my scenes from Bryce into Octane and I'm pleased to report, as least as far as the geometry is concerned, Bryce is being surprisingly well behaved. Materials are proving a right royal pain... but hey, if it was easy, where would be the fun in that?
Cheers,
David.
