does anybody have a link to such a list, or a copy and paste of such a list would also be great ...

thanks Richard, I guess that's what I need then .... which means there's even less advertized compatibility between previous versions than I thought

maybe I am ignorant of the whole distortion thing but map transfer and mostly in my case UUW3D repaint (Blacksmith 3D and Blender do it too) is the preferred alternative as you can mix and match skins using other bump, normal maps etc and layer them to create new characters whereas locked to different UV's you have to use that skin with that UV.

I realise its a lot less work just buying the UV product clicking and loading and its very good for that reason, not criticising but with a little work running the map transfer script on Genesis 3 you could also bring all your maps over.

where do I find the map transfer script?

this is probably the best tutorial I know, for older content but still same workflow

I tried the different textures on G8F when she first came out. Granting that I don't have all of them (and for some reason, I don't think I tried all of the ones I have), but the only ones I found that didn't work were: Girl 7's UV, Josie's UV, Bethany's UV, Sunny's UV, Rune's and Kalea's UV. Some of them were a bit surprising, given that the shapes weren't all that extreme. With the others that I did try -- I know I tried Victoria and Monique, probably not Mei Lin or Aiko, and I don't remember if I tried Lilith -- there was no visible issue in the viewport.

I am a bit confused by one of the promos for the "Genesis 3 Character UVs for Genesis 8 Female" product. The caption for that first image after the main promo says it shows G3F Base Female texture on G8F, with all sorts of breaks where the UV doesn't match up. That just doesn't happen. G3F Base Female UV and G8F Base Female UV are the same, by design. I wonder what that picture is meant to be showing? (Honestly, looking at it, I would say that's Victoria's texture, and not Jeane. That said, I had no issues putting Victoria 7's texture on G8F; I didn' see that sort of UV mismatch. THAT said ... I didn't try to render it, so there may be issues that show up on render that don't show in the viewport.)

Hi. Apologies for the lack of clarity. That promo is actually Bethany 7's skin showing how it looks without and with the UV correction. Some of the UV differences are glaringly obvious, like the characters  you mention. Others have more subtle seams around the arms and thighs, sometimes only visible from behind, or differences in the alignment of the facial features, the eye socket, nails or nipples. In many cases, with a clothed figure or a close-up you could get away with it, which is perhaps why at a cursory glance they look fine. I felt that invluding all of the individualised UVs in one product was the logical and more complete option, rather than offer only those with more obvious seams.

Not really as the tool to transfer them within Studio exists, sure it takes some time to do, but it is there.

Oh, OK. Thank you for clearing that up.

I do think that, if it's possible, that promo image should be resubmitted with corrected captions. As it stands, it looks like you're saying that the product corrects something that isn't actually an issue.

And yes, an all-in-one product is very welcome!

well ... the tool is there because you can apparently transfer G3 skins to G8 ... it's just that the seams on all characters won't be a perfect match for G8. Or did you mean something different? Is there a tool (except the Sickleyield one mentioned above) that can get the job done on the unevenly matched UVs?

Even though you can use the transfer uvs tool in DS to transfer uvs from one set to another, you still have to relink all the new images into the old shader setup. Redz product I'm sure does all that for ya and that's what you're paying for. I don't have the product so I don't know for sure, but I'm going to assume all of that has already been done for you.

After having read the description of the product again, then again, maybe not ;). I guess it just adds the uv set to the dropdown in the Iray/3Delight shader.

@AllenArt "I guess it just adds the uv set to the dropdown in the Iray/3Delight shader."

You don't need a product to do that. The dropdown shows any UV it can find.

The description says the UV sets are remapped. "This product contains re-mapped UVs for all 19 of the Daz Original '7' figures that use unique UV maps, allowing your Genesis 8 Female to wear those skins and have them fit perfectly."

How else would one interpret that and the promos?

Thanks, @Redz, for making this product. I need it. Although G3F Base skins are said to work with G8F, I find I am still forced to resave G3F skin shaders separately before applying them to G8F to avoid getting multiple pinpricks of transparency. I wish there were a product that addressed this as well so I didn't have to resave for my 150+ G3F skins.

I've put it in my wishlist. Saves me from having to do the gruntwork of map transfer utility ;). I have a lot of skins I don't necessarily want to go thru myself.

Daz Studio will recognise the UV, and will automatically apply it when you apply the materials, so yes, with the UV product it becomes automated, just like applying the materials to G3F.

With the map transfer utility you need to transfer each map (diffuse, normal, bump, specular etc and all of the makeup options too, if you want them). I hadn't the patience for it, which is why I created the product in the first place. :)

I can't say I've noticed the specks with the '7' figure skins, though I have seen it with others. The product only remaps the UVs. It doesn't change the skin shaders in any way. But I think with the latest Iray update, and the newer G8 skins, we are still in a learning/transition period for skin optimisation.

Thanks, Redz. I get the specks with Raiya's and Saiyaness's skins. I haven't tried any others, as those are my go-to vendors for skins.

Select your G8F figure in the scene tab, then go to the surfaces tab and type UV into the search box. You should find it there. The UV selection will depend on which character UVs you own. The default for G8F is just the base female UV.
