Tone Mapping vs Light Level

So, I understand that one of the reasons for IRAY having trouble converging is low light levels in a scene.
I also understand that one technique for "brightening" a scene that is too dark (e.g. inside scene lit through a window, etc.) is to increase the ISO level through the Tone Mapping panel.
My question is: Are these two equivalent from the point of view of getting IRAY to converge? In other words, does doubling ISO setting have (more or less) the same effect on IRAY convergence that doubling the light levels by modifying the illumination sources?

No, although I have seen some effect from adjusting Tone Mapping it doesn't work for much - a more likely approach is to add more light and, if that isn't the look you want, use the Tone Mapping to bring the image down to the desired level (which is, in effect, how film works).
