Dark Haven issue.

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

When I take the material off the model for the Dark Haven Wall, I noticed why there always appeared out of place lines in my renders. The lines on the model don't match the Dark haven material. I couldn't figure this out for the longest time sad to say. Even brought it up on this forum once. So the question now is, is there a proper model for the Dark Haven materials? It appears to be using the model for the Gothic construction set wall. Maybe I'm just missing something, but it's been very frustrating dealing with out of place lines.

Dark Haven is a texture set for The Gothic Construction Kit:

This beautiful aged stone and brick texture set has been created for use with the Gothic Construction Kit. Rich in detail, with moss growing in cracks and crevasses, this set is perfect for building towers and castles in dark wooded dales or mystical places.

Are you saying that it is not mapped properly? Can you post an image of what your problem is?

Oops. I meant to upload a pic. In this pic, to me, the pattern on the model does not look like it remotely jives with the Dark haven material. You can see where the model's lines appear on the wall to the right and it looks totally out of place.

How are you applying these materials?

The image you have shown looks like a bimp map to me, I don't have this set so I can't check.

It says this on the Product Page:

    Features
    •10 prop (PP2) files
•12 high resolution stone and brick texture maps
    •8 high resolution bump maps

A PP2 files is a Poser Format prop file, and you should load it first, there are 10 of them in this set. They will be under Props in Poser Formats. The texutres are designed for them, and they are mant to 'complement' the gothic Construction Set as far as I can see. They are not textures for loading on to it, but on to the Props supplied I think.

Yes I loaded the prop first and the material is applied automatically. Yes it is a texture set for the Gothic construction set (GCS). No the lines are not on the bump maps for either DH or GCS. It appears to be a part of the model. I just like to know if this is correct or did I get a defective product. Hard to believe the textures and the model would conflict like that.

I just checked and yes I have the same and I have had this set coming up 4 years. I have used them in the past and never noticed it. LOL

If the wall is modeled with inset mortar lines any texture that doesn't align with the mortar lines will not look right. The model should have been kept simple and displacement maps used for major surface features, bump maps for minor surface features.

My thoughts exactly. My guess is most owners of this product never realized this issue. Seems like a shoddy short cut to offer textures for a model that doesn't match it.

Ok if it is a serious issue with you then make a BUG report on Mantis. :)
