Is there a way to set up my Daz folders on an External HD rather than having everything on my main HD?

Yes, you can use Content Directory Manager (launched from Edit>Preferences>Content tab, or from the Content Library option menu) to configure the locations used - though you do need, at least for Windows, to make sure that the same drive letter is used for the drive each session. If you have installed content with DIM that's a little more awkward as the manifests, listing installed files, use absolute paths.
