DSON and G3 and G8

This may be a dumb question but I'm still scratching my head over why G3 figures and shapes come DSON ready.  Seems rather useless since the figures aren't usable in Poser and can't even be seen in Poser in the format that is SUPPOSED to be DSON ready.

Does anyone else feel that DAZ has missed the boat in not making sure all of their contect is usable in Poser?  My thinking is this that DAZ makes most of its money out of selling content and up until Genesis most of DAZ content was compatible with Poser.  DSON was a great step towards rectifying a bad situation for everyone including DAZ sales department.  Excluding G3 and G8 figures from being able to be used in Poser is a huge step backwards both as far as clients and sales are concerned.

DSON is the native format for DAZ content just as Poser uses pz2 and cr2s for theirs. G3 and above does not work in Poser because Poser does not have the technology, such as the dual quaterion weightmapping, needed to load the figure in Poser. Until poser adds the technology, there is nothing DAZ can do.

As with all these threads, your inquiry needs to go to Smith Micro and not DAZ3D. DAZ3D gave them a list of things needed to get the figures to work years ago and they have yet do anything so the ball is in Poser's court.

Poser doesn't currently support the skinning method used for the Genesis 3/8 figures.  There is a method to export them as Tri-Ax rigged figures and convert them to DSON Importer-compatible figures using a free converter available at Renderosity, which is cumbersome, but it does work on the figures; clothing sometimes has issues with inverted normals.  Of course, you need to provide your own material shader setup. I currently use them in Studio, myself...
