Character Preset

I'm having an issue. I've made a character using G3f base. Got her looking how I wanted to and saved her as a character preset. I start a new scene. Load G3f and pose her and then I want to apply the character preset I saved from before. Thing is I can't find the character preset anywhere. I went through all the content files and went through the smartcontent tab. Vanished. So, can anyone direct me to a link and give me an explanation on how to use character presets?

I'm not sure but I think the save may be recorded in your log file (look under Help-Troubleshooting-Log) with a full file path?

Failing that, load any character and then do "Save as Character Preset" again and note where it says it is going to store the result - it should show the path it intends to use - no need to actually save anything though.

Tried that earlier. It's saving in MyLibrary/Presets/Character folder as a Duf file. When I navigate to that folder in my content files, nada. Gone.

And did the log file show it saving? Or any error message?

Which version of DAZ Studio are you using? I just tried it in DS 4.9.4.117 (I haven't updated to the latest version yet) and it worked fine for me - showed up in the content library and also in Smart Content under "Default - Saved Files - Actor - Character" so I am mystified.

  • I'm using the updated 4.9 build. I reinstalled Dazstudio and it seemed to fix the problem.

Glad to hear it's working now, but shame you lost your saved version.

When you do File>Save As> Character Preset, does it not show you / allow you to pick the location? It will default to Presets>Characters but you can select any location.

Sometimes it takes the Content Library folder a little while to catch up. Kind of like wating for the Windows Explorer folders to be refreshed.

I prefer to use the little + sign at the bottom ofthe Content Library pane to bring up the save options.  The + sign will only be visible when you are in Studio format folder so it is the 'no brainer' choice for me.

Are you sure you don't have two defined content folder locations? If you're saving to a folder in one location but looking for your file in a folder in the other location...
