Old Figures, Old Morphs...and an Old User...

I'm using DS 4.6.3.52 Pro Edition on a Win8 box. I also use DS 2.3.3.146 on a Win7 box (yes, I'm old).

I mostly use Gen 3 and earlier figures; they were my go-to in 2.3, and thus far they seem to behave themselves in 4.6. However, I've run into a problem with the Morph Loader in 4.6: it doesn't seem to want to load the old OBJ file morph targets. I run the Advanced Morph Loader, it does its bit, and then tells me that the files had no effect. I run Morph Loader Pro, it does its bit, and I get a "no deltas, skipping node" message.

I'm sure that this topic has been discussed elsewhere, but my search-fu has thus far been weak.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

  • Are the OBJs for the full figure, or just for a particular bone?

A particular bone, in this case the head.

  • Try selecting the head, then in the Morph Loader settings under Load Morphs for select Primary Selection (Vertex Only).

    Bang-zoom, it worked!

Thank you, worthy sir! I figured it was something simple, given the (relative) simplicity of the figures I use.

In DS 2.3, the morph loader worked with the default, which was "All Group/Bone Matches in Figure".

Now to figure out why some of my 2.3 scenes cause 4.6 to crash when I try to load them...

I've never used 2.3 so I don't know if it had the smoothing modifier or not, but make sure if it does, that no items have been changed so the collision item is either self or none. If they are, correct the smoothing modifier and try again.

  • DS2 lacks both the Smoothing Modifier and SubD, they were new in DS4.

The crashes are only a mild annoyance at this point; if it comes right down to it, none of the dodgy scenes are anything that I can't quickly and easily reconstruct.

    EDITED TO ADD:

Aaaaaand I spoke too soon. I've discovered a rather extensive scene that has caused a crash. Here's what I could glean from the log file:

    Opening file Team Fitzhugh.daz...
File read time: 0 min 57.4 sec.
WARNING: elements\joints\dzlegacyjointrotator.cpp(36): NULL driver for joint parameters in DzLegacyJointRotator::DzLegacyJointRotator()
WARNING: elements\joints\dzlegacyjointrotator.cpp(36): NULL driver for joint parameters in DzLegacyJointRotator::DzLegacyJointRotator()
WARNING: elements\joints\dzlegacyjointrotator.cpp(36): NULL driver for joint parameters in DzLegacyJointRotator::DzLegacyJointRotator()
WARNING: elements\joints\dzlegacyjointrotator.cpp(36): NULL driver for joint parameters in DzLegacyJointRotator::DzLegacyJointRotator()
WARNING: elements\joints\dzlegacyjointrotator.cpp(36): NULL driver for joint parameters in DzLegacyJointRotator::DzLegacyJointRotator()

The scene comes up fine in 2.3.
