Hardware Question - Best GPU Option

I hope this is the right forum for a hardware question...

I am building a new PC, and would like some advice on GPU's.

Which do you think would perform better with DS/Hex/Bryce - One GTX 1080Ti or two GTX 1080's?

For the near future I will be rendering in Bryce, probably using the default (biased) renderer. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Bryce render engine uses the CPU rather than the GPU(s), so would it even make any difference whether I use a 1080Ti or dual 1080's, or would I be just as well off with one 1080?

BTW: In case it makes any difference, I'm considering the Ryzen 7 1800X (AMD) processor, and 32GB DDR4 ram.

Thanks, as always,

joe

For pruductivity software, running more than one video card has two uses.

    1. Multi monitor setup plug each into it's own GPU to spread the load for GPU intensive multitasking.
    2. GPU based rendering

Though if you are planning to run more than one high end GPU, I would look at the threadripper line from AMD.  You get quad channel RAM, and a whole bunch more PCI-e lanes.

Thanks for the clarification! I had heard about using threadripper with multiple GPUs, but wasn't sure what the benefits were.

I had a couple more questions, but I just stumbled onto one of your other posts that cleared it all up nicely smiley

    Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification! I had heard about the threadrippers - they look monsterous! (a little pricey, but monsterous)

The lowest threadripper is only a little more expensive that the fastest Ryzen 7, but you get all the benefits of the platform, and the ability to upgrade later.
For multiple high end GPUs, Threadripper or Core i9 are a must (or if you want even more you could always go for a single CPU AMD EPYC setup, get 8 channel RAM and 128 PCI-e lanes to fill up with GPUs) lol
