Anyone else not able to get G8M through Daz Connect? - Solved

Let me be very, very clear.  I already know that G8M is availabie via DIM and the Product Library.  I am *Not* talking about getting G8M via DIM or the Product Library.  I like using Daz Connect for Updates.  Less Bandwidth, usually.

However, my Genesis 8 Starter Essentials does not yet have an Update available via Daz Connect, and I've tried both refreshing within Daz Studio and restarting Daz Studio multiple times.  At this point, I'm looking for more information to better troubleshoot the problem.  I'm not submitting a ticket unless I absolutely have to.  (I can count my non-frustrating communications with Tech Support on one hand... and I've submitted more than five Tech Support tickets over the past decade.)

I have DS 4.9.4.117, if that has any relevance.

Edit to add the solution that ultimately worked for me, so that others may try it if needed:

Update Metadata on Genesis 8 Starter Essentials, then Update the product on Genesis 8 Starter Essentials.

  • I'm using 4.9.4.120, though I doubt that is significant. I ddi have an update for Genesis 8 Starter Essentialks and when installed I had the figure (and it loads correctly).

    - I did not have an update in DAZ Connect for Genesis 8 Starter Essentials.

(only three unrelated products were showing in the updates tab.)

    - I did right click on update metadata for Genesis 8 Starter Essentials. No Change.

    Using DS 4.9.4.122

    - - -

What did the trick for me was

to right click to uninstall Genesis 8 Starter Essentials with DAZ Connect in the Smart Content tab

and then right click to reinstall with DAZ Connect from the Smart Content Tab

-> Now Genesis 8 Male is included.

I 'm using 4.9.2.70 and the Genesis 8 Starter Essentials showed an update for Genesis 8 Male in the Smart Content Tab.

Beware the Armani Hair Iray material presets are categorized the same as the 3Delight material presets so it looks like you have double duplicated hair materials.  They are named the same and icons are identical.  I recategorized the Iray materials to Materials>Iray>Hair>Hair Colors

    Edit: Changed double to duplicated

I was thinking about trying that, so seeing that you said it worked for you, I tried it.

Nope.  Didn't work for me.  Even re-started DS between the uninstall and the reinstall.

Edit to add: Okay, that's weird.  I told it to update the metadata, and then I could update it, and then the update had G8 male

I only use Smart Content for updates and to check out recently installed products.  I use the Content Library otherwise.  But thanks for the warning.

I get a systax error when I try to load M8. There are more details in a thread under the troubleshooting forum. Can't remember the actual name.

Kevin H - I got this same error.   I tried everything... The only way I was able to fix it was

    1) uninstall Michael 8 through Connect.

    2) Update the Genesis 8 Essentials in Smart Content updates.

    3) Download the DAZ connect offline installer and authentication file from your online Account Product Library, then install them explained here

    https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/207812473-How-do-I-install-Daz-Connect-products-using-Offline-Packages-

It's a pain, but it worked.

    Thanks, bohemian3.

I got it to work too. But I used DIM to install M8.

I think I tried everything else but what you did. After messing with it on and off all day, I think I'll just stay with what I have.
