Hide this rectangle

I somehow managed to activate this white rectangle.

Can anybody tell me what this is and how to hide it again?

go to render settings and change it to "active viewport" instead of the specific size you have it at now

Click on the icon on the right from "perspective view" and deactivate "show aspect frame"

Bear in mind that the rectangle was showing you which area would render, without it you won't know where the boundaries lie (unless you also take RawArt's advice, but then your renders will be an odd proportion and limited by the viewport size).
