VWD Using GPU??

Has anyone noticed that VWD seems to be using the GPU when calculating a cloth sim? I was just doing a sim and noticed the GPU is pegged at 100% utilization, and the 16 CPU threads are also cranking around 25-30%.

Is that something new in the new bridge, or was it that way all along ? I thought Gerald said he's working on GPU sims.

Awesome.

The bridge wouldn't drive GPU use. It would have to be the VWD itself. I've not seen GPU use during VWD, I used it this morning and I was wishing I had it because it was a complicated item with lots of layers and it was sloooooow.  Did you recently update VWD, if there's a version newer than the one I downloaded maybe a month or three weeks ago then maybe it's in there.

Nope, all I updated was the bridge a few days ago. Weird.

Maybe the new bridge download injected some magic somehow into VWD behind the scenes.

Is your viewport set to Iray? I just tested the new bridge, and running a sim with Iray off, the GPU is virtualy inactive, with Iray on the GPU is working hard.

    DOH!!! You're right...stupid me...

Turned off Iray viewport and the GPU is dead during a sim.

    A side note...

Blender's cloth sim uses a grand total of ONE thread of my 16 thread CPU, while VWD uses all 16. And if you read the Blender forums of people asking why it doesn't do multi-threading they talk about how difficult it is... smiley
