Not with Windows 8 RT if you have an ARM processor, is what I'm reading, but regular Win 8 64 bit it theoretically should work fine with it (as most 64 bit applications that work in Windows 7 will).

I looked it up today because I've been thinking about a new laptop myself, and the ones in my price range at Newegg come bundled with this touchscreen-dependent abomination and no touchscreen. :p

    Hi...

Well FWIW I recently got a new W8 64bit laptop... and I currently have a 'tolerate/ hate' relationship with W8... but that's another story...

As for DS, I have had no problems using the latest version 4.5.1.56 64bit on it... My laptop is an i7 4core w/8GB and a GTX660/2GB and DS just flies with no lag...

Now I personally prefer W7, but as my nephew told me, I might as well get used to W8 now... even if I absolutely hate those tile things... >:(

    nicci... :)

For those of you moving to Windows 8, if you want the Start menu back I suggest StartIsBack. I use it myself.

I installed DAZ Studio 4.5 Pro on my Toshiba laptop that came with Windows 8 and it installed and runs just fine.

Yep, that looks like it's just what I'll be needing. Thanks!

Is no-one selling Win7 installed in systems any more?

Any bets on MS coming to their corporate senses and making Win9 a bit less like a phone/tablet OS?

    Given this nonsense: http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en-US

I'm going to say no, or we'd better hope the Surface does extremely poorly. Which, honestly, it might. It's obviously supposed to be an Ipad killer. I think how well it does (and subsequently how well Windows 8 does) will have a lot to do with whether everyone who can't afford an Ipad and feels left out runs out and buys one. If it costs as much as, or more than, an Ipad, I think it has no chance (do we all remember Zune?).

I've seen a few comments here and there on the Net from people who have, or have tried out, a Surface. One of the most positive I remember was "It's not great, but I need it for Excel." Hardly a glowing recommendation... :smirk:

This is why in spite of having win 7 I am considering installing the win 8 upgrade I purchased for $15.00 a while back. I find alot of things besides Ds like hooking up usb drive can be quite laggy at times I have heard that win 8 is better for that & loading up. I can have it installed with the 3rd party start program that lets it run like 7. Worse case I can always put back my 7 recovery....

The Wikipedia article claims it does have better security features and supports USB 3.0.

Windows 8. Newegg has some laptops with it that also have USB 3.0 ports, for what that's worth.

I have an i7 2nd gen laptop 8G 2 usb 3.0 ports I will most likely give it a try soon and it will have startback included. As I said I have the choice of going back to 7 just in case but 8 has been out for a while now...

I use ClassicShell to have the Start Button.

I got no problems with DAZ 4.5 on Win8 64.

Instead, I got some problems with some DAZ installers, problems solved by using the Compatibility setting in the proprierties.

    @SpottedKitty
Windows 7 is far from unavailable on new systems. Balmer pissed off too many consumers and hurt too many distributors with his infamous "upgrade (to visa) or die!" battle cry

Many thanks I am wagering this is for the older style bit rock installers? You finding DS running smoother in 8?

I had to use it for the Aiko 4 extra textures installer.

DS 4.5 runs on 8 in the same way he did on 7.

Another issue happens if you use an AMD video card: the latest Catalyst Beta 2 drivers make DAZ (And many other 3D programs including Hexagon) crash on booting. Today, AMD released the Beta 3 drivers that solved the issue.

I was doing a search for something else entirely and this thread came up. Just got an abomination...er, Windows 8 laptop today, saw this and said--out loud--"oh my God, I love you!"

Just a tool that you might want to use.
the only way MS is getting 7 of my HD is if the pry it out of my cold dead file allocation tables.
