Compatibility Confusion

First, I'm sorry, I'm sure I'm the 10,000,000th person to ask a question like this but I'm having trouble pinning down an answer via Search.

I'm very new to DAZ3D, currently running the newest version. I plan on using it to generate characters and locations to use in a visual novel type game. As I'll need several different morphs, poses and clothing varieties when it comes to characters. Now, as I understand it, G8 is a "base" model off which most other models are derived? So, if I plan on buying M8 and V8 bundles, what should I expect when it comes to compatibility if I were to purchase items, clothes, morphs and poses designed for G3, M4 and V4, and M7 and V7 for that matter?

Thanks!

I'm also new to Daz3d but as far as i understand so far, G8 is competible with old stuff. So if you get clothes or poses for G3. It should work fine in most cases. While i think it doesn't work other way around. So if you have clothes/poses for G8, it won't work on G3..

I have tried some G3 stuff on G8 and it worked out well so far.

  • Clothes (and figure hair) from any previous Genesis can be converted via AutoFit, though the quality of the results will vary and any custom bones will be lost (which can make thing slike skirts harder to pose).

Textures for Genesis 3 of the same sex, using the base UVs (which most do) will work.

Morphs can be converted, but it isn't automatic - there's a long thread discussing the process, and scripts to help. HD moprhs, however, can't be converted.

Poses can be converted using one of a couple of tools in the store.
