Giving Daz Studio another go - couple of questions

Hello.

I am a long-time user of Poser and Vue, but have been away from Daz and the forums for a long time.  I have tried Daz Studio many times, starting with the very first beta version and I have just not been able to get to grips with it.  My main problem has always been the content library which has never seemed to work for me.

Lately, I haven't felt particularly inspired to produce any images and wanted to try somethign new to maybe kickstart some creativity, so I decided to give Daz Studio 4.9 a try.  I am still happy with Poser and Vue, but adding a new tool to my kit would be nice - especially after seeing some of the Iray renders.

Firstly, something seems to have changed with the content library and everything is staying where I put it and seems easily findable which is a huige improvement for me since the last time I tried DS.  I have set up a folder for Daz Studio content and added the small amount of Genesis content that I have.  Then installed Genesis 3 and 8 to the same directory.  Finally, I decided to push things and add my Poser directory.  So far, everything is working.

Having somehow now gotten around my previous problems with the content library, I have mostly found DS pretty easy to use (and the Iray renderer is superb) so I have been having a play about with a few test renders and so far liking the results.

Two questions that I hope someone could help with?

1) Is there any way of getting back the "Rendering Image" window that pops up during rendering?  I am experimenting with render settings and it would be very useful to be able to see the render time after the render has completed.

2) At the moment, I am just dipping my toe into DS so I don't want to buy a huge amount of content.  On the other hand, I want to give it a fair go.  What would you recommend as a first set of Iray lights?

Any other advice would be welcome.

    2) I can't recommend any in particular but the first thing I would get is a pack of HDR lights that look like they would work with your renders.

In the render settings there's an option you want to look for (I can't remember exactly where it is off-hand) but it's a checkbox labeled as something like "Render to new window"

Thank you very much - I would never have thought to look there.

He's asking about the little window that shows time and itterations for the render.  As stated in the above post, the info you are looking for is in the log file.

If you do a bunch of outdoor renders (set on earth) I quite like this one : Iray GeoLocator .  With this one, It will generate your outdoor lighting based on the lat/long location and the time/date that you put in.

Yeah, I didn't read the question all the way through and basically just saw Is there a way to get back the popup window when rendering

After I posted I reread the question in it's entirety and gave myself a face-palm

Thank you for the replies everyone.  After a couple of days experimentation, I am going to keep DS installed.  I looked in my purchase history and found that I have a fair amount of Genesis products, so I re-downloaded those.  Then I bought the new Michael 8 because of the included M7 and M6 figures.  Also got Victoria 8.  Along with the old content and trying out HDRI lighting, it has definitely kept me busy.

Overall though, I am loving the Iray renderer, which is why I thought it was worth buying some new content just to try out the renderer and its options.
