Still no Black G8M

How long does it usually take for new figures to get different ethnic morphs?

I'm waiting to upgrade, but no idea how long it could take...

    Depends on what kind of skin resources a PA has, but I'm sure you'll be seeing various ethnicities come up.

    M7 came out in mid  November 2016, and Darius 7 in late December 2016.

    M6 came our in mid November 2013, and Darius 6 in late February 2014.

    If you own Darius 7, you can use the skin on G8, and try to dial in your own shape with the shape morphs. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a mont or three.

    If you want to use Darius 7 textures on Genesis 8 Male you will first need to use the map transfer tool to convert them from Darius 7 UV to Base Male UV, then it can be used on Genesis 8 Male. There are many other PA characters that use Base Male UV anyways, they can directly be used. But Darius has his own unique UV and it doesnt match Base Male

  • The textures do look nice, but it's more the morphs I'm after... I kind of thought there would be a bit more diversity right off the bat. Maybe I'm being too optimistic. 

     

    Does using G3 or the 7 series skins affect the quality in anyway? Would a G8 skin be better to wait for?

    There isnt much difference really. Textures are still very much the same level. The biggest difference is that Daz with their iconic 8 characters and many PAs making characters for G8 are using Dual lobe specular and handling the subsurface scattering in a slightly different way. But overall they neither really stand out over each other in terms of textures or materials IMHO.

    But I will repeat make sure you convert textures to base Male / Female, if they arent already that UV for use on G8. If you dont convert them to correct UV that G8 uses there will be seams, and things wont line up 100%

    Also keep an eye out for this one for the morphing kits, @zev0 and @dogz teamed up, Dogz did one for G3's and it was really awesome! Very handy for original characters and character diversity heart Im super excited haha! I dont know when it will release though, but no doubt soon(TM)

  • I created a G8Morph that looks African American and I used G3M textures on him and he looks great. You could do the same if you need a ethnic character for your renders when I get a chance I will probably post the morph for free on sharecg. I'm just busy right now.

    Any Daz figure with a "7" in the name will have it's own UVs. Sometimes the difference is so subtle, you'll never notice it, especially if your character is wearing clothing. I used Arabella 7 materials in Skin Builder 3 for this render. When I applied the modified skin to the model and specified the Arabella UVs, there was an obvious seam where her legs and torso met. So I set the UVs to Base Female. Here is a closeup of the same model. This was before G8F came out.

    Since G8F came out, I learned how to use the Map Transfer utility, and then put together a comprehensive tutorial on using Map Transfer to convert V7 materials to Base Female materials. The same process can be used to convert Darius 7 materials to Base Male materials. (Or any "7" female to Base Female; any "7" male to Base Male.)

    It would surprise me if we don't see a male version of Redz UV product, whether from Redz directly, or Daz. So if you need to convert materials, I would recommend doing them as you need them. And don't forget about Slosh's latest UV Swap product. You can use Monique 7 materials on G8M if you convert it to Base Female via Map Transfer, then use the UV Swap. And with the G8M Head morph pack, you should be able to come up with a variety of looks that would look "black" with the right skin materials.

    I just posted some images to this thread and since I hadn't baked the Darius 7 or Kimo 7 maps I'd used out to Base G3M maps yet, you can see where they don't quite fit. the faces fit mostly, but there are areas where it's a little off ;).
