Change Genesis 3 shell UV set
Hello,
I do want to create a new UV set for an Genesis 3 shell.
Here is my approach:
1. Load Genesis 3 (fem) into the scene
2. Switch to Base resolution
3. Create a shell from Genesis 3
4. Export the shell as an .obj file
5. Modify the UV map in UVmapper or something similar
6. Load the modified .obj file as a new UV set for the shell surface
The problem is that I get the message that "The UV map selected was invalid.". So I tried just to load the exported shell-obj as a new - even if unchanged - UV map, but the problem here was the same.
Ok, so I checked the number of vertices and found, that the export of the .obj (even if the resolution of G3 was set to Base) did some SubD on it....
Do you have any idea, how to get a propper export of the G3 shell to modify its UV mapping?
Comments
I have never tired to change UV set of shell. but change base figure mesh UV set is usuall.
geometry shell can choose uv sets which original have already .
then do you try to modify uv sets, not shell but genesis3female , inport VS sets, and save as new UV sets for genesis3female first,
and generate shell chosse UV set which you made not work ?
if you hope to use geometry shell as OBJ, (individual prop), you may need to save as prop first. then make new UV sets and save for the shell,
then it work I think.
Thank you very much for your answer!
Hm, ok. Successfully changing the base UV would be a huge step forward.
However, I actually fail to load the exported Geneis 3 .obj. The mesh I just exported can not be loaded as an UV carrier - "The UV map selected was invalid.".
I know I managed to do it once. But since there is absolutely no useful documentation for Daz I am totaly lost. This is really one of the poorest documented piece of software I know.
Is there anyone who can tell me, wich settings I have to use in order to save the Genesis 3 mesh for remapping and reloading its UV?
I recommend to step by step test, about import and re-import for morph or uv set process untill you suceed.
first try,
1 clear scene, then load genesis3female.duf (character preset) to load genesis3female only. then confirm there is no additonal item, (eg grafted gen)
2 you need not change shader, but in parameter tab, set "resolution level" to base. and I usually set Sub-Division level to "0" just confirm.
3 open "Scene info" tab (I usually keep it open) , then select genesis3female root in scene tab. now it should be,
Scene geometry:Active/Base Total vartices 17418/17418 Quads 17000/17000 Faces 17000/17000
Primary Selection Gensis3female vertices 17418/17418 quads 17000/17000 Total Faces 17000/17000
4 from top menu Flie> exprot , decide export directory, then set file type as obj.
5 For UV tweaking I use my custom option for blender. but anyway, once export obj with daz default is good to test. (then I set export preset as daz default)
6 then try import obj as UVset , from top menu >Edit>Figure >geometry>load UV set. it should load new UV set , ( input UV set name), it is just for text, it show same UV set of genesis3base. but you can choose new UV set, in surface tab about each surface group.
7 if you can confirm it, next, change export setting for your UV tool. then load it in your UV tool. but this time, not change anything. just export obj, from your UV tool again. then try to load it for daz studio as new UV set.
8 if it failed, that means, you need to change import and export setting, in your UV tool. I do not know UV mapper, I use blender mostly to tweak UV set. (UDIM or not)
if it success, finally you can actually tweak UV set, in your UV tool, then export it as same setting, it should work.
Then I recommend, may better change Tilte, with your UV tool name. the Tool user may tell you, their export option.
