Universal manipulator tool translates rather than object?

edited March 2013 in Daz Studio Discussion

I added an object to an existing scene I'm working on, but when I try to move/rotate that object it's the UMT that moves instead of the object. I thought maybe I had hit a wrong button or entered a weird mode, so I tried the object in a new scene by itself and I can manipulate it no problem there. I've also used the same object in a previous scene without issue so I think it must have to do with this particular scene.

Object in question is the Energy Pistol from Bandolin. Scene has two genesis characters and also incorporates !3-D-C K-azonica's Apartment and a dynamic towel, if that matters.

Any idea what's going on? Thanks.

EDIT: Just to confirm, I started from scratch, posed my character with the pistol, added the dynamic towel, saved the scene and then, after deleting the character, towel, and pistol from my target scene, merged the two. It's working. Weird.

Pretty sure I've seen this before... but I can't remember how I solved it. Is the Energy Pistol a freebie? If it is can I have a link so I can see if I can remember what I did?

does the object that your adding have its own heirachy? usually you can only move an object if you have the root of it selected.

It was a freebie - came as part of a set (CommUnit, Energy Pistol, and Scanner). It says "Bandolin" but I don't see it at sharecg or renderosity so I'm not sure.

    The object heirachy is EnergyPistol
    >PistolRear_1
    >PistolFront

I've recreated the relevant parts of the scene and they are now working correctly but I have no idea why.

    LOL.

Thankfully it's not a big deal to start over with what I'm doing - I can use the experience. ;)

If an item is fitted to your figure, it will do that.
