Can't I just empty (or move) all the content folders and just start over with the content manager?

I managed to get the content manager working on my PC laptop- which never had Daz studio before. that's great.

On my mac, that I have had all my content on for a few years, and I just want to move or empty the content folders so they are not referenced and then use the content manager rather than go through the process of uninstalling all that content. is there some reason that would be a problem?

( Yes I have 3 or 4 models that don't come from daz but it hardly matters as I cannot locate anything well as it is, so I am willing to sacrifice them if necessary. )

Do you mean you want to completely empty the content manager database of data and start with nothing, or do you mean you want to keep your categorizations but delete and reinstall your content folders on disk without having to recategorize anything?

Hi Sean, thanks for the question. I just want to start completely over, using the content manager to load all my content, which I've never used on my mac.

I understand that content manager can't manage anything it did not install. so I want to remove all my content. but why do I need to uninstall it all (and yes I have uninstallers for only about 30% of my models)

To make it easier I am willing to get rid of ALL the content and start over. I dont have anything to save in the way of organizing folders

Is it a problem to just remove all the folders and replace them with new empty folders for content manager to install into? or if I just remove them will content manager make new runtime folders? (or whatever there called now;0)

I hope that is more clear.

    thanks

You certainly don't need to use the uninstallers, you can just delete runtime folders. Your database will still be filled with orphaned references to those missing files though. If you are starting over, possibly some of the utilities in the Content Database Maintenance window will help at that point.
If you decide to use DIM (download install manager), you might want to do some research on starting to use uninstallers in the future; I never use them myself but that may affect how it does things under certain circumstances.

The content manager will not create runtimes. Your product installers create the runtimes (or if you use non-DAZ products, zip files might be doing it, or you might manually be doing it.)

If you're going to use a different location, such as the default Install Manager location, you just need to go in DS to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager and remove the old location and add the new one. Do this for both "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats". You can reset the Content Database fro the Content Library options menu > Content DB Maintenance > Reset Database.

I would advise you to save the Data folder from your old content folders -- the .duf format can go back to the Poser files if the Data files are missing, but .daz scenes won't work if the data files can't be found.
