Can You Get Iray Surfaces to Display "Realistically" in the Viewport?

So one thing that has always bothered me about Iray materials is that they render strangly in my viewport.  Surfaces always look plastic and lack details shown with transparency maps.  This is especially true of skin, but affects clothes and objects as well.  Is there any viewport setting that will make things like skin show up in a more true texture way?  The plasticy look of everything makes setting up renders difficult because I'm taking a lot of guesses when things don't render the way I think they're going to from what the viewport is giving me.

Thanks.

  • You can switch the viewport to NVIDIA Iray mode, but that will be slow to update.

You can also use the Aux Viewport as a small prieview of your final render or a specific part of your scene.

Than you can navigate in a texure shaded (or whatever) viewport to select your materials, etc..

Navigating in a Iray viewport can be a bit painful, even with a high end Nvida card. With this Aux Viewport it's not that painful any more.

You can find a short description how to set that up here : https://www.daz3d.com/help/help-daz-3d-video-tutorials
