New PC Daz set up questions

Before I messing everything up...I wanted to ask...

I installed DIM. I changed the path to D:\Documents\Daz studio DIM

There was recommended path. I wasn't allowed to remove it or take it out of the list. At least I didn't see a way. I did add my folder and set it to current, so I hope that DIM will use that for future releases?

I had a DIM folder, a Daz Connect folder and a poser folder. Can I just place them all in the Documents folder? And can I copy the DIM folder right on top of the Daz Studio folder that I have already created?

On the old system, DS put the Daz Connect stuff in a folder in Documents. It put the DIM stuff in the public documents folder, but that would put it on the SS drive and it needs to be on the D drive, so can I safely put it there?

Yes, you can change them all to your desired location, just make sure you do it consistently.  You may also want to change your DIM Downloads folder location.

Thanks. I did run into one issue...

There was one connect folder that wouldn't copy. It said that the path for PROJECTION TEMPLATES for 1_23348 was too long and I could try shortening it and try again. Oddly, I don't think the new path is any longer than the old path. Guess I will try to install it again. If that doesn't work, I will try installing it with DIM.

Even though I have all the Connect products copied over (I copied the entire directories that were the connect folders. I think there were two.) I have to re-install all the Connect products. It does go through the install for each one, but I don't see it obtaining data from DAZ. I suppose that it is adding the files to the data base and that it why it has to reinstall them even though the files are there?

    Thanks again.

Yes, it checks to see if the file you have matches the current version, and doesn't download if it doesn't need to.

The reason the Connect path can get quite long is that besides the path you see in the Content Directory Manager there is also a hidden "Cloud" folder and then an individual product number folder (that holds the actual product files) for every product installed by Connect.  Connect is a nice idea but poorly executed IMO and is why I hate it and will only use it for those products that can only be installed by Connect.
