Excessively long scene loding/clearing times when Elite Human Surface Shader is used.

Hello. I have noticed that whenever I use "Elite Human Surface Shader" in a scene with Daz 4.5.1.56, I get some pretty extreme loading and clearing times (20-30 min) for scenes that would otherwise take moments to load. Have others experienced this as well? Thanks.

are you using a slow computer like me? Anything slower than a single-core 2 GHz processor and 1 gigabyte of random access memory may cause Daz Studio 4.x to run slowly. Daz Studio 4.x also needs more than 128 megabytes of video ram.
Loading Elite Human Surface Shader onto Genesis on a new computer shouldn't take more than one minute.
Does your scene have many objects in it? Have you tried a simple scene with one Genesis figure only?
That is all I can think of. Hopefully someone will have better ideas.
Computer processing power is not the issue. I have a quad core 3.2 GHz CPU with an accompanying 12 Gig of RAM.

Loading the shader onto a figure isn't really what I am talking about - this takes seconds. It is when I try to open the scene later to continue my work. Daz just thinks and thinks and thinks...

Two clothed figures - V4 and Genesis.

Can't say I've experienced this myself, and I use Human Surface along with UberShader (its bigger brother) and UberShader2 (it's bigger-bigger brother) quite regularly. I suspect there's something else at work here. What is your graphics card and CPU? A quad-core shouldn't be having too many difficulties, especially with your amount of RAM, so it's hard to see why you're having such extreme load times.
CPU is a an INTEL core i7. Graphics card has zero impact on load times. It will impact the responsiveness of the user interface when posing.
The extreme load times are specific to application of the shader. I can load a scene without the shader in a few moments. After the shader is applied, the load tme grows exponentially.

A wild shot, but can it be that the sader is old and needs updating (or is recompiling on load) and something makes it recompile over and over?
Check your log, it might contain hints.
In 4.5 there was an update to 3Delight which calls for shader recompile.
I wasn't expecting to find this...
I think I've discovered a problem with Daz3D. In summary, Daz still seems to think figures with the shader applied are "still there" even after they have been deleted from the scene.
Example:
1. I loaded clothed figure that already had the shader applied to the body and clothing.
2. I deleted this figure from the scene (note - I manually deleted and did not do a full clear)
3. I then saved the empty scene - what result was a ~3MB file even though nothing was present at the time I saved.
4. I then opened this "blank" scene (it took about 5 minutes - should have take a second or two) and then loaded the clothed figure again.
5. Once again, I deleted the figure and saved the file under a new name. This new file was now ~6MB even though there was nothing in it.
It seems as though even though I deleted the figure, Daz thinks it is still there when it comes time to saving the scene. I repeated the experiment wihtout the shader (same figure), and every save resulted in a tiny 1kb file (as I would expect for an empty scene).
So whatever is happening, it is specific to having the shader applied. Note - when I cleared the scene (rather than manually deleting the figure in it), I had no issues.

File a bug report at bugs.daz3d.com (needs separate registration from the DAZ3D account). Looks like it isn't discarding the undo stack.
Thanks. I was hoping to get to that later today, but I've just started coming down with a nasty cold. We'll see if I can continue forming complete sentences once the cold meds kick in.
I was going to say that Daz Studio is taking its time optimizing images via tdlmake.exe, but you have a fast computer.
I just saved a nearly empty scene with Genesis female wearing Lana's texture. The size of the saved file is around 60 kilobytes. I agree with ReDave, I think you found a weird bug with the shader.
Hope you find a solution soon Desert Lion.
I'm gonna test this now, did you write a bug, otherwise I will if I can reproduce it reliably.
I added a bug report earlier.
You have a link to the report?
I'm having the same issue with Aiko5 at default texture, when render is in progress it recompiles again and again.
the only way is using progressive rendering, at least for me, it works better, specially for detect mistakes in the scene.
Zilvergraphics: Then you need to reset you downloads I guess and get an updated HS Shader which is recompiled for the new 3Delight in 4.5, but it can also be a problem with progressive rendering as it has been a little buggy.
ok, following your advice, thanks Totte.

If that doesn't work, the ID is 0050049.
With the DIM and people reinstalling stuff it can easily happen that an older HSS can be installed over a new one? Doesn't it come with a lot of V4 Elite products?
I don't know if a lot of people have HSS as a separate purchase to reset and d/l.
Any thoughts on this, or am I off on a wrong track?

probably, I have DS3 and Ds4 Runtimes running at the same time, and "Content" for DS3 and "My Library" for DS4 too.
