A New take on an old topic... DAZ STUDIO SAVE PROBLEMS.

When I save a file, it only saves every other time. The first time it does nothing and the second time it supposedly saves. I use the save as option the first time and the save option each time thereafter. I think that multiple people have mentioned this problem.

Sometimes (meaning seemingly totally random) when I save .duf files, when I try to reopen them later, a log comes up and informs me that a bunch of stuff is missing. I then get a loaded file with V4, M4, or Genesis, intact, and then a bunch of gray primitives that used to be my sword, my floor, my background props, etc. I have read through the forums and there is really no one answer on how to fix this problem, and I HAVE asked DAZ studio directly what to do and they sent me a message saying that they would get back to me when they figure it out. That was awhile ago.

However, as things often surprise us... I noticed something HUGE today when I was having this problem. My content library was open and while the file was loading I noticed that only the DAZ studio format was glowing. My DAZ studio is not loading Poser format files. Anyone have any idea why this could be. My library was connected, and still is, but sometimes when I use DIM to install, I have to tell DAZ where all of my content directories are again when I load DAZ 4.5 Pro. The only reason that this is an issue, is that DAZ still crashes every so often like it always has since Studio 3 and I am assuming it did in earlier versions as well. This is a copy of the log:

It told me that all of these things were missing when it tried to load, even though they were all exactly where I loaded them from when I brought them into the file. and the drive is connected and working fine. I am very annoyed about this because DAZ is completely worthless if I cannot return to work on projects later and I am one of the people who had paid for this program BEFORE it was free.

What I am running:
DAZ Studio 4.1.5.114 PRO
imac from 2007 with 4GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and 2GHz Intel Core Duo
My content is on an external Hard drive because I have a lot of it.
My external hard drive is a 2TB Seagate desk drive fairly new.

I have provided a screenshot of what the bad file looks like when it is loading and I am wondering many things I know, but the main one is... Is there some box or command that would allow me to tell DAZ studio to find the poser files. This is an option that existed in DS3 that I am sorely missing now. Anyone who has answers to any of these questions or who can think of any other reason why this is happening, please respond.

And if anyone else is angry about the instability of DAZ studios saving and recovery abilities I recommend that you complain to tech support. They need to make these things an actual priority in the future. We spend hours on our work and expect it to be there when we come back.

Can you go to Edit >Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats" sections, and post a screenshot?

Hello,

First, you Directory setup looks pretty much like mine.
My first guess is: Your external drive is not behaving correctly.
Are you connecting via USB 2/3 or FireWire?
The symptoms you describe looks to me like "drive problems", or that Spotlight is indexing the external drive while you process things (open files) and the drive or USB has problem sustaining a sufficent read.

Check for errors that are drive related using "System messages (sometimes called Console)" , found in /Applications/Utilities/

Okay. So I looked through the log. All I see in the main section are the errors that DAZ studio was causing and errors for this thing called pploader. The following is a sample of each.

If you set the filter (Top right corner filter field) to DAZ.DAZStudio you will only see those fromDS.
And, those are not the errors you are looking for....

A quick Google search of 'ntpd' show it is some type of network timing protocol and 'pploader' is a Mac thing. Based on those errors I would say your computer is: (1) Having a nervous breakdown. (2) Has a virus or malware infection. (3) Is just set up wrong.
