Oooh, I've got a use for that . . . . !
Cool. Me too!
Okay, so I'll do that then.
Also, I plan to provide more options and presets to choose from for the rest of the EnvironKit series, along with continuing all of my other projects I've been trying to finish ;)
It's a bit of a problem that Daz doesn't seem to be taking into account context.
Like, Baker and a few other things seem extremely important to the functioning of Carrara. It's important for them to be available at a level that more conventional content is not.
I agree entirely - and have since I've first seen a culling, Desert Dude's shader packs. Then Magaremoto's store, and 3DAGE, and more. Phillip Drawbridge's starships were some of the best I've seen. Makes me wonder sometimes.
The thing is, Daz3d PAs are treated pretty darned special at Daz3d. Benefits that customers just don't (can't, actually) get. I'm not really at liberty to discuss that, as I'd really prefer to stay in good standing with them. But once a PA stops producing new content (that also sells), if their store doesn't sell a certain amount between time A and B, it is determined that it's just not fair to the company or other PAs that the (non-producing) PA continue to recieve the same benefits.
So they tell us that the door is always open. In truth, that applies to anyone willing to submit something worth publishing in the eyes of the powers that be.
So in my case, all I need to do is to submit a new product. It will then either be accepted, denied, or something in-between.
I know a handful of people who have given up upon refusal - or even the somewhere in-between response from them, which is often something like: "It just doesn't look like something we're interested in at this time" sort of thing. Many (MANY) times, this isn't even due to the actual product, but either the delivery of it (not being tested/packaged fully) or promoted in a way that "sells" the product.
So we have to remember that, if we want to sell our stuff, we have to Sell our stuff first - and that will likely be the case anywhere.
I had a hard time with this aspect when I first started. I was lucky in that the Carrara gurus at Daz3d loved Starry Skies, because my original promo renders really sucked! LOL
My (then) manager was enormously helpful in guiding my hand toward making better promos, but I think that, in the end, they just took it as it was and let the description sell it. I look back now and realize that I was very good at rendering back then. 3D was still a fairly new artform for me.
The saving grace was that (I think - and have been told by others) it was the only available product of its kind: 3D stars in 3D space of various size, color, and brightness, making up a 3D starry sky all the way around the scene. It works great for me. I never wanted to use Hubble images in my background - as stunning as they might be. I wanted the stars to be able to move. In the end, it also turned out that the more distant stars to show up in the render would twinkle too... which I also really like.
Anyway, it's a real nerve-wracking experience - waiting, wondering if it will be accepted. Waiting, wondering if it'll pass all of the testing. I had a really strong beta tester, and I tested a lot myself. Once we get a chance to converse with the testing team, get used to completing "finished" products, it becomes easier to know that the product is sound. Promotional imagery is always tough. Some people actually hire themselves out to do that work for you.
Above all else, it has to promise something - and it has to keep its promise(s).
Okay, I'm babbling... again! LOL
You done good Dart. Your products rock.!
You and Tim and Andy and the other Carrara PAs should ask for ideas of what people want to see in Carrara.
You never know what will come up.
Dart, I can only speak for myself but imagine it applies to others also.... We never tire from your babbling... I alone have learned a lot from you.
Before you get excited folks I've also leaned from you too... folks like 3DAGE, PhilW and many many others... Also the many PAs, modelers, animators and everyone, those who come with questions and/or advice, who have visited my threads as well as other threads. Don't try to hide from me... I'll track you down and link to your thread or post. :)
It was not until last year that I started buying Carrara content that I'd not already acquired from Eovia. I now have nearly everything from most everyone. What makes me sad is that in the past year there are many new Carrara users... therefore there are more Carrara only future content buyers... and the content pool just gets smaller all the time.
You must be thinking of someone else...I've never made anything cool enough to even think about selling.
Ooops... My Bad!
I actually thought (long ago) that DesertDude was a renaming of "CoolArtDude", but alas... I stand corrected!
Since he was culled, he'd offered most, if not all, of his wonderful shaders up for free. Since I already bought some, and liked them, I scored them up right away at that time, so I can no longer remember how I got them... ShareCG, perhaps?
Thanks! And great idea! That's kind of how EnvironKits came to be - except that I was asked... rather than the other way around ;)
Thanks, especially since I just cannot help myself!
Wow. Infinite Skills got culled too?
I was just going to add a link to their store here in another thread. Oh well, I guess. At least we can often find PhilW's awesome tutorials at other venues. Still... real bummer!
Infinite Skills was removed last April. I think that you probably just forgot. With all that has been going on in your life, it's not surprising!

You're probably right - I was thinking along those lines as I typed the above post, as a matter of fact.
Wow... I'm glad that I already bought them all. Amazon might have copies for a while... I hope that new users will always be able to find them.
There shouldn't be an issue with still getting them, it's just that the routes to market are now more restricted following the take-over of Infinite Skills by O'Reilly. I think they really want to push their online access to training.
