Ok so were did my Smart content go. it was here and working . I put some other things in and now there is no smart content again. I would like to know why Daz puts so many folders on ones computer. and can I move the folder to another drive other did C drive and have smart content work. I had a daz installed on drive M before but never had any smart content. then Install manger came out. so I on installed Daz and put in the newest one and it put the daz program in "windows/ program files/ Daz 3d/ DAZStudio4 which appears to be the program itself " and also put a lot of folders in "Documents / DAZ 3D/ this folder holds the InstallManager and the content directory manager" then there is a "Documents /DAZ 3D-Studio/this holds the My Library and render library folders " then another one in "Documents. My DAZ3D Library/ which seems to have all the daz and poser files in it. " so with so many folders in the computer . are there any that we can combine or move I would really like to get the program off of c drive. because if you have a hard drive crash you lose everything. So I guess I am asking can I move the program back to my M drive and if I do. will I have to move the content directory manager with it. and should I move all the other folders to the same drive. I can reinstall the Daz program again and point it to the drive I want it to be on that is no problem. I just have to know were in the program do I point it to the content manage system so it will show up for me. after seeing it I like it and seems that it will making working with DAZ a lot easier then hunting all over the place to fine some thing that you need. and if I install some other things in a different folder say all the free stuff that I get will the content manager system fine that also.

thanks for any help that you can give me.

Have you checked to make sure the content management service is running? Just Ctrl Atl Delete and restart it under processes if it is off. Sometimes it turns off and you cannot see smart content.

Merged duplicate threads - if you wish this moved to another forum please ask a mod to do so, rather than starting a new thread.

sorry about that . I am just mad at the fact I can't get this thing to work. If you would pease move this to an appropriate fourm so I might get some help on this sure would appreciate it a lot. it just seems that there are a lot of folder taking up space that don't need to be there.

thanks and sorry for the double post.

I don't know it it'll help you Woody2, I don't use Windows, but at least I'll try to sort DAZ Studio locations.

DS, as far as I know needs only two directories:
    1) for program itself, plug-ins and some shaders (this goes into your "Program files" on the main disk (C:) together with other programs
    2) content library which could go anywhere with one important qualification - the drive could be external, but make sure it's always on when the computer is on, because it must be accessed by the Content Manager when DAZ Studio or DIM installer is in use.

You can easily set up the place for content. It needs to be done in 2 places:
    1) in DAZ Studio, in the left pane select a tab menu (a little striped box and choose Content Directory Management - I'm writing from memory, but it must be something like this). Select DS content line, expand, and add your directory path. Then do the same with Poser content.
    2) in DIM preferences. You just enter the same directory path for content that you entered in DAZ Studio settings.

That's basically it. You can get rid of other directories, although DAZ Studio will insist on creating Render Library folder under "user"/documents/DAZ Studio. This could be changed in preferences too.

If you haven't installed a lot of content the easiest way would be to start anew, install only DAZ Studio (without Genesis Starter Essentials), set up all directories in DS and DIM and only then start installing content. All smart content will work then, whatever place you chose.

    Moved to DAZ Studio Discussion.

Check that the CMS is running - assuming you are using at least Windows Vista start Task Manager (right-click on Task Bar and pick from menu), then go to the Services tab and find the DAZContentManagementService - does it say Running or Stopped?

ok thanks guys for the help. but now I have another problem. I uninstalled Daz took everything out and reinstalled . I let it go to the default locations. then I ran the install manger . started up daz and I have the smart content. but now I dont have any content. I looked in the edit menu and went to the daz content and there is a folder there for daz c:/user/name/docments/public/daz/mydaz3d library. i looked at the other computer and there is another file in there c:/user/name/docmens/daz/mydaz3d library . when i try and add it . i get the message that it is installed already. I tryed to add some of my old folders that I used before and still nothing shows up in the content tap. but I do have smart content. what the hay is going on here. never had so much trouble installing a program before in my life. I think I am going back to daz 3 that worked every time.

I am going to uninstall it again and install it to my old drive and stay away from the c: drive all together. I never had any trouble with it before. any one have any ideas before I take it out . tell me how to get the content back.

Ds defaults to C:\Users\You\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library for content, the DAZ Install Manager defaults to C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library. You either need to change the path DIM is installing to, by clicking the gear icon in the top-right corner to open preferences and changing the entry on the Installation tab, or add the Public documents location to DAZ Studio, most easily by right-clicking On Poser format and DAZ Studio Formats in the Content Library pane and choosing the Add directory option.

Ok if I can attach some photos here I will show you what I have. I can not get any thing to show up in my content in the program. I have the directorys set up like it showed in the tutorials. I have all the files in the proper place. but not go. I even tried to point it to one of my runtimes that always worked before I installed the smart content. I am about to take it out and get it out of my C drive. does the content management system have to be on C drive or can I install it anywhere as long as I point the install manager to the place that it is at. along with the other files.

    please help.

On the Content Library, click the double arrow just under the text box for searching - you folders are collapsed, and so you can't see them or select one to see its content. Once you've done that, look to see if anything is listed under the products or Categories headings - if not your CMS is probably stopped.

thanks but I'm not sure at what your saying. here is a picture of what I have. don't see any place that says to unhid them. maybe I should just un install this thing and clean out everything that is daz and try and start over. but I have so much content that it would take a long time and I just want to get back to having fun again . anyway if you see something that is worng please tell me and well see if that will fix it. if I don't get it to see the content by morning I am going to take it out and start over.

OK, there are actually two collapsed panels - try clicking the down-pointing arrow to open the one you need, and click the up arrow to close the filters panel.
