Is the blade of the Corsair sword turned the wrong way???

edited December 1969 in The Commons

Is it just me? Or is the blade of the sword from the "Corsair for M5 and Genesis" set curving the wrong way compared to the guard?

Well it looks fine to me, in the promos :)

I can not tell from the Promo's. But in RL the SHARP edge is to the same side as the hand guard. This does look like the Edge is on the inside.

On the promo he isn't trying to use it to fight with.
Look at the attached pic... I'm no expert swordsman, but I think the sharp edge should face the opponent :)

Looking at that picture you're right, the blade is definitely the wrong way around.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there is a mistake
    Here is a similar weapon

Oh well I have enough sword props, my corsair will just have to use another one
At first I just couldn't figure out what was going on when I tried to set up a scene with the new props. I knew the sword somehow looked wrong and I couldn't get it right, but it really took using it in an empty scene that I could confirm that it is the prop and not my inability to pose it that is the problem...

I took down my great great grandfathers naval officer sword from the wall and took a picture, yes, you are right ;-)

Wow, real sword! Like, real real sword! What century is it, 18th?

He was a commander in the Swedish Navy, born 1827, died 1893. It was a time when Sweden and Russia had several grudges over small things like Finland ;-)

Yup, that is the wrong way... or based on a sword that is either very unusual, or incorrectly reassembled.

Ah but yours looks far more artistic because of all the paperwork! :) I'd love to own a sword with some history though. Family history is even better, I'm jealous ;-)

You don't need pictures from internet to rely on, Merlin. Best thing is to have the real thing to base your 3D models on.

I got it from my grandmother when I was seventeen and she moved to a smaller apartment, as no one else in the family wanted it. It's dull as a butter knife (someone unsharpened it many years ago). You still can make a 3D model of it worth the name, I cannot, so we can call it even ;-)

You could borrow it to Merlin, he makes a perfect 3D-model and sell on DAZ3D.
You get back your sword and a copy of the 3D-model. Everyone is happy.
Or maybe a bunch of high-res pictures of all the details is enough.
    Cheaper to send emails.

My daughter works as a "photoshopper/retoucher" with a photographer right now and she's studied photography so I can maybe get some high quality shots as she got a Nikon 7000 with some great lenses. Good idea as it has some really nice work on it, very detailed and also on the scabbard.

Merlin: hollar if you like the idea!

    Oh! Can I play?

It's not nearly as old or in as good shape as Totte's, but this was my great-grandfather's World War I Prussian Cavalry saber. He was a chaplain attached to a cavalry unit, as I understand (his having passed before I was born.)

There were a couple of periods where my dad wasn't taking as good a care of it as he should have, and now I'm hesitant to restore it, since I don't want to do more damage just to make it look pretty.

Like Totte's, it agrees that the Corsair blade is on the wrong side.

Are you kidding? Look at where the guard is. It's covering the back of the hand by the wrist and not knuckles and fingers.

What's the sculpture behind the sword?

Photos are the way to go as you don't want to be trusting the postal service with a family heirloom! I'm always after good photo references though and the sword looks to have some beautiful work on it, so by all means if you get the time send them :) I can't promise anything but you'll be the first to know if/when I get the sword done :)

What's the sculpture behind the sword?

That's my stone lion sculpture from Whipsnade Zoo :) This seems to be turning into a 'show and tell' thread! :)

Could be a reverse blade sword. Designed more to incapacitate rather than kill.

    http://www.amazon.com/Reverse-Blade-Katana-Black-Stand/dp/B000ARIRKS

But if it were the bend would be the opposite direction so yeah its wrong

I don't think this concept works with weapon from Europe.

It's obviously a rare "suicide" sword.

The blade is on just fine!

The handle is on backward though...

y'know, that's kinda...bad. For a modelled sword to be so totally wrong, I'm wondering how it managed to get accepted. It'd be a deal breaker for me - back to the deli you go!!!

Could also be used to peel super giant potatoes. But not so good for slicing them.

Could also be quite handy if you intended to gut your opponent from below with an uppercut thrust. The well prepared warrior: Specialized tools for specialized needs.
