Not the movie...

I keep getting an error message when I attempt to upload an avatar from my machine. Any ideas for correcting this?

whats the error message? Avatars need to be 100x100 pixels and 100kb or less
are you using a file named .JPG
if so try changing to .jpg (lowercase)

It is not you but the website...this has been like this for a while now. Somehow I don't think it is high on the list to get fixed.

Yup. The avatar system needs looking at. Those of us who already have avatars managed to upload them a while back when the system was still working. But for now, I'll let McCoy give you the details.

Guess Skyrim Cat is with me for the foreseeable future.
I'd say submit a bug report but if they know it's just sit and wait.

Well... that's okay. I was just going to post my smiling face. Can we still upload thumbnails to our signature? Either way is okay..

What I find most odd, is it depends on what machine/browser im using if i can see Avatars at all or not.

On my work workstation (Win7/IE9), i could not see mine, StratDragon's, Szark's, or drcharbonneau's avatar.
On my home workstation (Vista/FF20), i can now see mine and StratDragon's, but that's it.

EDIT: I could see HeraldOfFire avatar on both.

You won't see mine at all as it has totally gone POOF! Just so you know. :)

Still... it's okay. We're all up to making Avatar type scenes and animations, so we're all a bunch of good guys... avatar or no.

...sheesh, almost eleven months now and we're still waiting for some of the things basic to most forums to work.

Avatars were working for a while, it was the server switch in January that rekilled them.

Dang it, those zombie avatars just don't stay dead do they?

The part I can't figure out is how everything else in the forum seems to work okay, and those with avatars can still use them. We can also upload images, so it doesn't seem to be the uploader that's the issue nor avatar retrieval. Gosh darn it, websites are so complicated. Give me C# and Java any day. Thinking about how all these databases fit together is confusing me more than my university physics classes did.

There are currently three areas in which image uploads fail - avatars, banners and PM attachments. I don't know why they fail and post images work.

...will that be remedied in the near future as I too have a new one I'd like to load.

...well PMs only allow something like 250k max and most images are at least twice that limit unless you "squish" them mightily in something like PS or IrfanView.
