Render in .hdr format

Don't know if this is on everybodies wishlist since forever. I just discovered the possibility to render 360. If I could save that render as an .hdr that would be a huge time saver.
Let's say I want to make a number of scenes in Stonemasons Streets of London. If I could make just one .hdr render of it, I could then just add characters and render with Streets of London as an .hdr. Would save hours! (I hope).
I have tried to render it as a .jpg and then convert it to .hdr but the light from the converted .hdr doesn't do the job properly.

You can save an image to .exr if you use the Canvasses feature in Iray - it's in the Advanced tab, just turn it on by the checkbox and create a new Beauty pass layer - when you save the regule image a sub-folder of the same name plus Canvasses will be created with the .exr file(s).
Interesting! Have to check it out.
Thanks Richard!
