In determining which were my favorite images, I selected first on whether it spoke to me. If two images were submitted, I picked which of those two I liked more. Then I considered the composition of the image, attention to detail, and whether the lighting was too dark or too washed out. That eliminated some I liked for silly little reasons like hair that didn't look natural or a pose or clothing that had problems. If there was postwork, I also considered whether the postwork added or detracted from the image. That left me with 12. Finally, I eliminated four. A different day, I'd probably have eliminated a different four. I found in most cases, I like the more vibrant images.

Edit: These are the eight I selected, in order of current preference. However, the order is completely arbitrary and has changed several times. I just keep moving tabs around blindly. Blame that on the new neighbor who thinks it's acceptable to play music (with a throbbing base beat) into the wee hours of the morning. It was 3 am before I was able to sleep.

I appended a or b to the post number based on whether it is the first or second of the two submitted.

I see that some of you have decided to post 1-8 in alphabetical order instead of favorites...but that does quite a disservice to those of us at the back end of the alphabet. I'd like to politely suggest that those who have yet to vote would really consider which is their favorite out of their top 8, so that some who might rank higher won't end up not making it simply because they're too close to the end of the alphabet. (Trust me, I hated almost always being lined up near the back in grade school...! ;) )

that is a bit weird.. when it comes to adding everything up I'll be assuming everything is ordered not alphabetically but in order of favourite images

I totally agree. I will say that assuming Stonemason uses a point system, such as ranking # 1 at 8 points, 2 at 7 points, etc. it might create an imbalance if every time your entry shows up at rank #8. Even if he uses a simple system of how many votes a person got for each ranking slot it would probably still be unbalanced.

Hopefully anyone that voted in that fashion will check this thread again before voting ends and edit their post accordingly.

I'm just floored by all the amazing entries, though. There are more than a few images that I thought were sure winners when I first saw them, that didn't wind up among my eight choices because the level of competition was so high...

PS: I am surprised there aren't hundreds of people voting? I know it's some work to vote, but only with a statistically significant number of voters will we get the best-quality outcome. Are people reluctant to vote 'cause they don't want to give points to someone else? Maybe only people who vote should be eligible for the community choice awards? Just a thought. I know my own entry has no business winning, so I don't care one way or another.... just seems weird that people would enter the contest and then be too lazy (or...?) to vote.
