Problems with CMS not starting

I'm having some odd problems with the CMS for DS 4.5

It doesn't seem to be starting when I start my DS 4.5. Nothing shows in the smart content tab, even with a figure/object selected.

I go to "start DAZ Content Management Service" and then reopen DS, but it still doesn't seem to be working.

I've gone to the services tab in the task manager and the status says "stopped" and it won't let me change that to "running". Even when DS is running, the status still says "stopped".

Anyone help with this? Why is CMS not starting when DS is opened? Why can't I change the status to "start service"?

The better question is why did it happen...what has changed on the computer for this to happen? Windows Updates? Antiviur/Firewall updates?

    Absolutely no idea, Szark!

I think I remember some Windows updates happening recently.....I've always had that set to don't automatically update, but i rememer when I shut down one night it told me that it was updating..and then they applied when i turned on the next morning.

I can't remember when this problem with the CMS started, as I don't use smart content....I happened to flick over to the tab the other night and noticed it was blank, so thought the database had been corrupted again. But then I searched and found the CMS wasn't started. I got it going and all my smart content was back...but now, it's happening again.

would Windows updates have interfered with the CMS running tho?

It seems it can with some people but again it depends what was installed. I am not an expert on this at all I seriously want to stress that.

Do you have your content Categorised if not then we don't have to worry about losing your Categories as that is now controlled by CMS. Have you tried this http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/8028/#105548 but I somehow feel it is more than a corrupt file but try it and see what happens.

i don't do any categorizing or MD myself. I don't use it at all, so i just let the MD in the product import when I install. If I lost the categories, I don't really care, so long as the product is installed. LOL.

I had a database corruption a few times - i uninstalled CMS, uninstalled DS, deleted the folders in the CMS folders, and then reinstalled. But that wasn't a case of the CMS not running when DS is started up. Or it may be - I can't tell.

I'm actually in teh process of redownloading DS, the new one, as I realized I was still on 1.16, so I'll do the uninstalling and see what happens.

Although I can't remember WHERE teh folders for the CMS are located!!

Do a manual Uninstall of the CMS via the Windows > Control Panel > Uninstall a program, before you install the new one It will throw up a warning asking you if you Uninstall CMS it will make the earth implode, ignore it and hit OK.

OR if you don't want or will ever use Smart Content don't bother installing CMS at all. I didn't on my last borrowed machine and daz Studio worked fine.

CMS at one stage was in Program Data (a Hidden file, just above Program Files) and with me on this machine I installed CMS and the Databases are in Program Data\DAZ3D\CMS\databases and the CMS.exe etc are in Program Files\DAZ3D\CMS\.

thanks! i couldn't recall where they were. I do know last time I uninstalled CMS i had to go delete those files.

I'll have the new DS downloaded shortly.....if my speed from the site ever gets above 20 kb/s. :sigh:

    Alrighty then.

New DS installed, CMS installed, new genesis starter essentials installed.

Open up DAZ, and hey presto, CMS running and working.

    Bizarre.

I've been fighting this problem for about 2 months now. I've tried EVERYTHING short of a complete wipe and reload of Windows. DS worked fine for a year and a half - then SOMETHING happened, and I got the "postgreSQL CMS connection" error. Haven't been able to run DAZ since. DAZ's "tech support is useless. It takes a month to get a response, and the response is a link to the FAQ which I've already found - and that don't work).
