Mac go kaboom when I try to save materials

FIle>Save As>Material(s)
try this and I go right to the finder and the app crashes.

I've tried:
Rebooting
Reinstalling
Remove the preferences files
Running the Application from the desktop
Repairing the permissions
Running the application from another administrative account
Shutting down CMS
Running FSCK and zapping PRAM

so if anyone gots some ideas that would be great, I'm away from this machine for the weekend so I cant try anything until Monday.
