can DAZ Studio props be used in poser 8?

I have poser 8, so that means I can't use the new importer that is from DAZ. But I was wondering if I can still use props that were made for DAZ Studio that are from about 5 years ago. Is there a way to successfully put those props into Poser?

Is there a particular prop you are asking about?
If you check the product page, you may see a list of files like: DSON Core Installer
Poser Core Installer
DAZ Legacy Installer
If you see Poser Core installer, you will have no problems.
Also check the What's Included features tab. If you see a listing for .pp2 files or obj and cr2, again you should have no problems as these files can be used in all versions of Poser.
Any props made during the DS3 or earlier era will work in Poser 8 without a problem.
Without knowing if you were previously using a version of DS or Poser, I don't know if you older props are already installed somewhere or you are need to install. If you are doing an auto install using the DIM, I won't be of much help as I don't auto install anything. I want full control over my runtimes and content.
If you have them installed to an earlier Poser runtime, simply point the P8 library at the old runtime. If you have them in an old DS runtime, you can do the same thing. While P8 doesn't hold to rigid runtime folder structure of earlier Poser versions, it is sometimes less annoying to stick to it.
I saw a prop that was posted at Renderosity that was from 2008, and I wanted to see if I could easily get it into poser.
What does the props product page and read me say?
Most likely it will work fine in P8. If the Rendo product page or read me states tested in a lower version of Poser than the one you have, it will work in your version. Most vendors selling for Poser test their products in as many versions of Poser as they can. I generally test for vendors in every version from P5 to P9 and all three Pro versions.
Something that old - pre-Studio 4 - should work in Poser with no problems. I think.
I downloaded the prop, but when I opened the readme file it said it would need to be converted for use in poser. What can I use to convert it to poser? I have Poser 8 and don't plan to upgrade to 9 at all.
What prop is it? What files does it contain?
it is the brainwasher prop in the props section at renderosity free stuff in the props section of stuff for daz studio, on page 17
They files are .DAZ scene files, so no it won't work in Poser, at least not without using DS and one of the PP2 exporter scripts to convert it.
In the Rendo free stuff, items that are listed under DAZ Studio are not likely to work in any version of Poser out of the box. Poser cannot open DS scene files or parse native DS files.
Items listed under Poser for the Rendo free stuff will work in most versions of Poser. With the changes from P8 to P9 and their respective Pro versions, you will need to check the read me to know what versions of Poser it will work in. If an item lists P6 or up, it will work in all versions of Poser generally in use today. If a product states it will only work in Poser 9 or Pro 2012, it will not work in P8.
